Samurai notes from the live letter, will remain weaker than BLM

According to yoship, the sam will remain at a lower rank than BLM, cant say i fully agree with him, oranges and apples IMO.

As a samurai, a pure DPS without party utility, I feel like we should be able to output more DPS. Also conditions to use Shoha is difficult to use in real situations. Hagakure's effect is bit lacking as well... Please let us know what your plans are moving forward.

First, in regard to Shoha, we agree that there are very few situations where it can be used. In patch 5.05, we were unable to make technical adjustments to the programming, so we are scheduling changes for 5.1, and we are hoping to allow Meditation stacks to be accumulated through a different means.

We believe Hagakure was the cause of the skill rotation becoming too difficult, so we intentionally did not want to return Hagakure to the skill rotation. However, it was added back with its current values to address the requests regarding controlling Sen for cases such as dungeon boss fights.

Samurai’s burst is designed around benefitting from receiving party buffs from other party members. Black mage is balanced around being the only caster without Raise and party buffs, and we believe samurai is also in a similar situation so its potencies will be slightly adjusted in patch 5.08. However, please bear in mind the possibility of it being readjusted again in patch 5.1.

Where are you seeing SAM will be weaker? All I see is them saying they are both in a similar position as to how they function.

Nothing there really says that SAM will be weaker than BLM, but I'd argue that BLM should always be higher than SAM because it's a caster and it requires more encounter knowledge than most jobs to be played efficiently, but that's just me.

BLMs have to interrupt their casts to avoid mechanics, so learning the fight and knowing which mechanics to ignore or pre-position for directly impacts their DPS. SAM on the other hand can DPS while moving, and the cast times on their Iaijutsu is very rapid already (compared to BLMs longer 2.5s casts)

I don't see that as what is being said here but the theory behind it is correct. Of the three Greedy DPS classes, the order in pDPS when played by the most optimal players in each job should go:

1. BLM
2. SAM
3. MCH

The difference should not be massive, and all 3 should be above any of the other jobs that bring utility, but their needs to be some pay off for mobility and range. Black Mages have increased mobility, but it requires solid planning and fight knowledge to be able truly bring the kind of pain that BLM can dish out. Sam has mobility, but it does have to keep in danger close melee range to keep up it's up time. MCH has to worry about neither of those things and can just keep doing what it does.

What a load of BS. Bunch of spreadsheet warriors designed SAM for ShB.

This mentality especially with the mobility of BLM nowadays is stupid.

Here's why:
1. Sam and any other melee has to interrupt dps for a variety of mechanics that keep us away from the boss.
2. melee dps frequently lose more uptime to an add spawn then ranged do because of tab targetting not always grabbing the target closest.
3. RDM, and SMN both have immobility nearly as much as BLM now too it feels like. The drastic difference between the 3 mobility wise has been closed quite a bit. BLM is still the biggest turret I know but this is undeniable.
4. It has been said time and time again by the Devs and the players in this forum that difficulty should not mean better dps. I disagree with this, I think classes with a higher skill cieling shoudl be slightly rewarded but more punished for mistakes. IE NIN at 90th up should do more total rdps than BLM or SAM, but at 50th shoudl do on par, and at sub 50th should do far less. But guess what? most people argue that difficulty should not be rewarded so that people can enjoy playing any class they want. BY THAT LOGIC the difficulty involved for BLMs knowing a fight and having to move should not give them an allowance for more dps.

BLM is balanced with caster, non raise, and non raid buff dps in mind.
I don't even like SAMs, but SAM shoudl absolutely be able to hit the same dps number a BLM should IMO

...Also please never forget NIN has to stand still for 6 seconds to cast his best move or he loses the entire bloody thing and has to wait another 120 seconds before he can use it can.

On a job that has loads of mobility a move that locks you in place is completely backwards on ninja

BLM is not locked to the ground and can still move and not punished for moving as much compared to TCJ
