PLD materia meld discussion

I have been 80 PLD around a week and SLOWLY working on the eden gear. While doing my dailies and getting all the Rodan set mostly done. But I see the need meld my materia until I start getting the Eden set done. Have finished 1-4 on eden and can see it's all luck once a week.

So what does a PLD meld What is good for the Rodan 440 set? I have been stacking DH +60 on basically everything because that is what I was told by my link is more useful for a tank.

Doesn't DET, and TEN come into play? What is the good balance for melds?

Would like to know what other tanks think please let me know.

Right now for pure dps sticking +60 Direct Hit in every single slot is the way to go. Tank gear never has DH on it and DH never reaches a point this tier where it becomes better to stack Determination instead.

At some point in the future, Critical Hit will become better and you'll want to stack +60 crit in every slot you can unless the item is already maxed on Crit, and then use Direct Hit as a secondary option. I'm not sure what the breakpoint is, but it'll probably be in the middle of the next tier of raiding.

Skill Speed is viewed as trash for Paladins currently due to it not affecting their cast-time spell phase at all and their rotation being so fixed but there's probably a breakpoint of GCD that's worth hitting.

Tenacity is in the usual state - most people will say avoid it. It's okay for tanks who don't raid as it'll help make huge 4-man pulls a bit easier, but currently there's no reason to stack Tenacity in any way because nothing hits hard enough... but there's a small chance, albeit unlikely, that when Savage Eden drops on Tuesday the damage output might be so immense that tanks feel obliged to stack it. It's not a terrible stat, its just terrible if all you care about is DPS... which most tanks do currently.

Altough, if you're with competent dps + heal and are yourself pulling decent numbers. Until you've acquired a few more pieces, Tenacity can be worth it if you can manage to keep the boss on yourself the entire fight minus the few time you'd have TB debuff. While 4~5% less dmg taken doesn't seem like much, it does pill up over the course of a fight, same as the healing receive.
But I wouldn't recommend it out of controlled group where you can make the most of it and dps isn't issue (second point being very important)

Except it's not. It's true that Skill Speed does not affect your magic phase but the same ppl that argue this is also the ones that forget that the magic phase is not where the PLD is doing the most damage. It does however affect both Goring Blade (Your 3rd highest damage over the course of a fight) and your Auto Attacks (Your 2nd highest damage over the course of a fight) Plus make the rotation more fluid overall and if you get enough of it will allow for FoF usage on Riot Blade. But by all means if you think its so trash feel free to stick to 2.5sec GCDs that feels terrible to use.

Well we don't even know a thing about how hard things are gonna hit on Savage, but it's probably alot more than you're used to simply because it has to be with the passive DR all tanks got built in now.

Also it's funny to me that after they changed the healing model this expansion and tanks are actually taking more of a beating and require more healing than usual, that you can still come up with an argument such as "things are not hitting hard enough to justify using it"

Tenacity was and will continue to be a good stat to have on progression of new fights. Increasing your damage by a marginal amount is gonna matter very little when you're on the floor.

If players would get out of this damage first, survival secondary mentality that's been rampant for years, you might actually progress faster on new content overall.

Skill speed doesn't affect auto-attack speed, only potency. If it affected the speed, it'd be the best meld for more sheltron uptime.

Det/Tenacity- I just don't see them having enough of an effect to be valuable at this point. Should survival become a melding need, that would change.

I myself am melding direct hit simply because it doesn't come natively on tanking gear and has the biggest dps impact.

Never said anything about it affecting AA speed? The point was that its still going to increase your damage and have other positive effects, i just cringe whenever ppl claim it to be trash or useless or whatever else as it is really not.

If that's how you wanna meld, then go right ahead. But i cringe at the fact that you would use sks just for one weaponskill and auto attacks which is a hugh dps loss smh.

I am melding tenacity, because its not only affecting our dps. Healer having more room to breath contributes to the dps pool too.
