Maybe offensive spells just shouldn't consume MP for healers

It shouldn't feel punishing to use offensive actions as a healer (as boring as those actions may be). There shouldn't be instances of "Oh, I can't cast my AoE anymore because I'll run out of MP to heal," or "Oh, I have to stop dpsing the boss because I could run out of mp to heal my party".

Forcing a class to stop dpsing because of MP economy is... gross. They've already removed TP for physical classes, and MP economy for casters is fairly trivial outside of rez/heal spamming.

I'm fine with increasing the MP cost of healing if it means removing the MP cost of offensive spells entirely. Managing MP economy for healing is fine. Having to juggle MP between healing and damage is yucky.

I understand the sentiment, but I don't think this would work in practice. This would mean that either healers have pretty much infinite mp, or that healing spells increase dramatically in cost. The former would render some spells absolutely worthless (cure, benefic, physick, etc) while the latter would be way to punishing too newer players who haven't quite optimized their healing rotations/cooldowns.

The "tier 1" healing spells are already fairly trivialized. Most end-game healers don't use them at all because they "waste a GCD". Perhaps the solution would be to not increase the cost of the "tier 1" healing spells. Then the game would be managing how many "big" healing spells can be put out while using the weaker, more efficient healing spells to fill in the gaps. Tier 1 spells would be semi-spammable without fear of exhausting MP.

Hello fans healer gameplay! Let me make a suggestion how to make things more fun to you. And that would be - ADD MP COST TO OGCD HEALS =) that would certainly add the spice to your gameplay style =) And look, this will work for both, casual and hardcore. I mean, casual still gonna use 1st tier and not DPS, while HC fans of OGCD ONLY healing will think twice before considering on using boring healer DPS rotations. Save the healers from boredom!

I don't agree that offensive spells should cost no MP... For SCH the AOE damage spell costs 800 MP to use, which is frankly insanely high considering how much you spam it. I haven't had mana issues in a single target fight with a boss, I would like for it to be dropped down to something like 600 MP that seems more reasonable.

I think that idea is well-intentioned, but kind of misses the point of MP a bit. The whole point of MP is to create a pressure and push for split-second decision making. To use the old SCH as an example, a Healer has to measure whether they can afford to use an Energy Drain or not. Then they have to look at the scenario. What's the Tank's Health? is there a Tankbuster coming up? Are some of the DPS straying perilously close to an AOE? What's happening around me? What's my MP Like, can I afford to do it? All of this and more helps create engaging gameplay, and making DPS spells take no mana would remove a bit of that.

As a healer, I completely disagree w/ this suggestion. The purpose is to learn how to prioritize. You are there as a healer. If you can manage to do both, without negative affects, then do so. But to allow full range DPS with no cost would just OP the Healer as a DPS class, and take the planning and knowledge of the class from the equation. (And, honestly, some of the fun)

MP management and situation awareness is very basic of our role

I disagree, in fact this would create more decision making, as it would turn your DPS rotation into a means of restoring MP, if more powerful healing spells where made more MP intensive (But weaker ones left alone) this would create more dynamic decision making. Also so long as a Healer is doing half the damage of a DPS they are not going to be OP DPS no matter how cheap their spells are.

Sooo you’re complaining about having to prioritize healing....as a healer....okay. Maybe you should be playing as a dps....
