Crash loop in gridania
I returned from my FC house (goblet) to gridania, and it caused the game to crash.
It'll always crash every time I log in now (so I'm stuck :( ).
It crashes without error, it just closes right away.
Specs:
os: Windows 10
cpu: Ryzen 1500x
gpu: GTX 1050 Ti

They think there may now be an incompatibility between certain GPUs and the game. Also the frame limiter they put in for no reason is a big part of the issue. They're working on a solution for it, but idk when that'll come. Could be later today, could be tomorrow, could be tuesday.
There's a workaround solution out there that's working for some, but not me personally. If you have a monitor that's over 60hz, (let's say 144hz) you can create a custom resolution and set the refresh rate to 90hz, and that could work. You could also try running the game in DX9 for now.

Are you using DX11? same thing was happening to me but when I switched to DX9 (full screen mode, not borderless) the crashes virtually disappeared.

Thank you for posting in the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Forums
Vulcwen, how long have you been experiencing this issue? Does crash only occur with one character? Could you provide a screen shot of the error message in your next reply? What have you tried to alleviate the problem? Could you also provide a system report? Simply go to the 'Config' option on the Final Fantasy XIV launcher and to the right of 'System Information' click on 'Display.'
Hope to see you online!

I have been troubleshooting it for a bit. After a lot of tries I managed to get one crash that actually had an error report:
The issue seems to be in nvwgf2umx.dll (address 954109 and some other addresses in the 95k range). Also, I got this on a fullscreen attempt, so my screenshot captured nothing.
I've tried to log in repeatedly for about 45m, a few times I managed to move a few yalms before crashing. Notably it did not happen when I logged in on an alt in revenant's toll, and I also tried to create a new alt which didn't crash until I got out of the tutorial and started to move to a part of Ul Dah where more than a few player characters are.
I tried the DX9 setting and that seems to resolve the crash, but shadowbringers doesn't seem to behave nicely with it (yellow screen flickering).
About the systems report, that contains a lot of info I don't want to disclose publicly (which a forum post is).
In any case, that error and the few suggestions here, and the fact it doesn't crash on DX9 seem to point to a graphics issue, so I'll try a clean driver install (someone suggested that to me), will update this post if that resolved the issue on DX11.
EDIT: it seemed to do the trick, it still crashes occasionally, but can go hours without crashing now.
