FFXI Players
Heya everyone I was just wondering how many of you have come across from from FFXI? I noticed we had a lot of other MMO players. Was just wondering if we have any over here? I left XI to come and play XIV in 2010. I loved that game and it is nice to see bits and bobs like Glamours etc in the game. I was on Shiva.
I sometimes go back but I am overwhelmed by how much I fell behind and I will always just play XIV now. Be nice to see if any XI players enjoy this game as much as XI or playing both?

I played it for a while, and there are still things I miss about it. Each race having its own combat animations, for each weapon type, no less. It was something to behold. Imagine every race holding and using the same weapon differently. Mithra Samurai were in the top slot.

I played XI for years, and I’m still nostalgic for it. However, one of the main reasons I left was the sheer amount of toxic and emotionally manipulative individuals that populated the highest level of play in that game. For that reason alone, I’ll never play again, but I’m sure I had fun at some point playing.
I’ve met my fair share of said individuals in XIV, but it’s a lot easier to avoid them entirely because the server populations are higher, and you can queue for content instead of being forced to play with a set number of individuals for literally all content.

Hihi Luluna - I also played on Shiva from NA launch till I think 2004 or so? I was a WHM and NIN main, and left after doing most of Abyssea stuff and getting my AF3 from the bosses drops there. I do miss the complexity of weapon type procs, skillchains, etc., but since I'm a bit older now FFXIV is great b/c it is so accessible. I never really had the terrible times dps had in finding parties, but that definitely isn't something I miss for my friends who did. However, I will say the biggest change is that there used to be a real server identity there since server reputation was a thing since there was no 'party finder' excluding just shouting in Jeuno, etc. :P Anyways, glad you're here and enjoying this one too!! I still glam my WHM here in the Vermillion cloak and my SAM in the Kirin's osode with hand armor that looks like the old okotes ^^

I'm from XI, and still play now and then (currently subbed). I originally stopped playing around 2011/2012 once family life took over, but I went back a few years ago and started with a new character. It has been a lot of fun for me just exploring old zones, leveling jobs, working on my AF/AF2/AF3 items, actually getting to read the full story (my first time through I was always rushing to not make my LS wait on me), etc.
Honestly, I will always love XI far more than XIV. My personal issue with XI at this time is that I'd like to try some of the current endgame, but my playtime is all over the place and doesn't really make it easy to join LS or make event times :( Sololife is rough. lol. That is one thing about XIV that I do appreciate - being able to get back to current content fairly easily (this could also be viewed as a negative due to how little actual "endgame" content there is).

As much as I enjoyed FFXI, the game is not the same as when I left it. I tried to return at one point a few years ago, and I just couldn't get back into it.

FFXI is a terrible MMO overall.

Thanks everyone I was around during the Abyssea era but I did not do too much in there. I am so glad people have fond memories. I do agree its a time sink and I like how I can be more flexible with XIV.
I loved moblin maze haha and also NMs where awesome and campaign and besieged! I would love the Three nations to have a tally at the end of the week that was always fun.

I play both FFXI and FFXIV. I started FFXI right when ToAU launched. Merit parties, pulling endless mobs as bard, keeping chains up; HNMs, Dynamis, and tons of different endgame options kept the game exciting for years. What I love most about FFXI is that the jobs aren't afraid to be different. And considering we will probably never have an established support role in FFXIV, I will stick with my bard, geomancer, and corsair in FFXI and enjoy them. My bard is mastered with practically full BiS but I still enjoy doing content with it. That full support with pretty good DPS is an experience that I can't get in this game.
Granted, FFXI is not like it was before. The game is more solo-friendly thanks to the Trust system -- getting to level 99 is achievable solo within a matter of hours or days. You can get a lot done by yourself at endgame, barring things like Dynamis D and other hardcore raids. But the community is not as helpful as it once was, especially on Asura, the most popular NA server. There's a strange disconnect these days that I can't really explain. It's not the same game that it was back in the golden days.
