Secondary Tool screwing with iLVL avg.

I know that it isn't really that big a deal as the added is more a bonus cause nothing was removed when the FSH secondary tool was added for spearfishing. But I am still curious if they will ever be adding higher quality Spears for FSH as this really screws up te iLVL average since it is only 180 ilvl. With this added and everything else being 350, the avg ilvl would drop to 337 roughly because of the spear. Again, it isn't that big a deal just hoping they do give us better spears come Shadowbringers.

Since the average ilvl for FSH is used for literally absolutely nothing at all, this is no actual problem. Your average ilvl never matters for any of the crafting or gathering classes, only your actual stats.

In a way it is actually nice that there is only one single FSH secondary tool available - makes for one less piece of gear that needs to be kept updated.

And stats are gated by item level so...

Odds are you're getting a new fishing spear. :P

I don't understand why the spear needed to be a piece of gear in the first place. It never upgrades, so what's the point?

Sort of. They're only gated to the point that is necessary for the system it is designed for. So if the devs decide that the stats provided from just having a main hand with the token offhand is enough for their system that's all that is needed. This was what they did the entirety of Stormblood, after all. Considering it's just gathering points on the off-hand, it's a good chance that there won't be an upgrade in Shadowbringers. It's also entirely possible they could provide an upgrade to it during Shadowbringers, or even swing fully in the other direction and make it a full on progression of items like MIN and BTN have.

For completeness and having stuff make at least some sense. All of the other DoH and DoL have different tools and animations for their offhands, so a FSH suddenly pulling a spear out of nowhere would be a bit odd. There is also precedence from 1.0 when FSH did have spear fishing already which used a secondary equipped spear, although that was spearing them from shore rather than fully underwater like we have now.

The stats you have, yes. The stats you need - not really.
The way the game is designed the amounts of Gathering/Perception you need as a FSH is lower than what you need as a MIN/BTN - this because your gear provides less stats overall.
