I heard it was delayed, but I was wondering why. Also, can there be a Mac version of the benchmark? If the game can be played on a Mac, there's no good reason why there shouldn't be a benchmark for Mac, right?

I think it was delayed by a few weeks but I don't think they really gave a reason. It probably wasn't quite ready.
Considering theres only like, a couple supported configurations for mac, they know how well it will perform on them. Its almost the same as a PS4 in that sense, as Apple doesn't have a huge variety of GPUs to choose from, since they aren't on terms with nvidia at the moment.
It would be nice though if they had it for Ps4 and Mac , if only for the character creator so those players could experiment with the new races.
No one at SE said it was delayed.
There's a miscommunication going around about something Yoshida said in-game at an event that was taken out of context and then spread around on Reddit.
The quote that is being used from Yoshida is "We're a little slow releasing the benchmark. It should be out around the end of May". But the more important thing is the context of the question, which was when the benchmark was being released. And Yoshida explained that it's slower than Stormblood's was. Which could be due to the new races being more complicated, or the fact that we just had a 10-day national holiday stretch here in Japan (likely the latter).
A "delay" implies they had a release date planned/announced that they missed... which is not the case.
I think people are saying 'delayed' because it's coming out later than the previous benchmarks. HW and SB's benchmarks came out at the end of April, if I recall.
I'm going nuts waiting for the chance to play with the Viera character creation and see if I actually want to make one of them...
I'm not too bothered by the delay. It just means that once we finally get it, we'll be that much closer to the actual expansion release.
Saddest part of the benchmark is when it pops some of us PS4 users will have to wait for the youtube videos and pictures to see it.
Now that I can't roll a Viera male, I'll be opting for the female version, from the promotional pictures they seem to blow all the other female races looks out of the water.. RIP
I guess male toons are safe, for now.
