[Suggestion] Paid Housing plots on Mogstation

We understand how expensive it is to host servers to provide services for the players especially for those sorely disappointed they weren't able to own their own housing plots in the game.

Why not let the players pay for the costs by listing additional paid housing wards in the Mogstation optional items? It could be on monthly sub like how additional retainers are being paid for, lapse of payment for 45 days will see the plot demolished, etc.

I agree this isn't very well thought out at the moment but could you see this as an alternative to the unhappiness going around with many players at a lack of personal housing spaces? :)

I don't know why the suggested solution to a shortage of housing is "make people pay more per month" instead of something more reasonable, like making the house and its exterior an instance like private quarters and apartments, so there can be a lot more per ward.

You pay a box cost + sub fee + retainer fees, and you want to add ANOTHER sub fee on there??? For real??? How about NO.

No, I do not think you understand that. While it is far from free to host servers, much of that cost is for fixed costs. Adding additional server capability is not all that expensive, all things considered.

Main problem with adding more housing wards is actually a poorly designed software system rather than hardware restrictions anyhow. Other games have shown that it is possible to have a much larger number of housing neighbourhoods without putting undue load on the servers.

Hard pass.

Despite the replies and people supporting them on rejection of my idea, I would love to see anybody coming up with other feasible suggestions which would help with the dissatisfied player base looking for housing with the current constraints?

1. Server stress
2. Server cost
3. Game design

I imagine this to be somewhat similar to EA's solution from The Sims 2 to The Sims 4, where the bigger community map and play area was segmentised to a smaller local play area, which others cannot view until they enter your housing instance. This is also similar to the condominiums/apartments already in the game. Pros are it will help lessen server stress and more people can own an apartment, cons are it becomes less fun/beautiful and less likely for community to foster around the housing area.

Of course, everybody wants everything for free. The game gives each player 2 free retainers, makes it so that players can pay for additional retainers if they require them, but there will always be those who cry out and demand everybody gets those for free as well, because "it isn't fair, we deserve to get it, we're paying monthly sub." I'm not complaining, I like free stuff too. If it works I'd be happy too.

So... what's stopping the devs from adding 50 more wards in each city in every server? No design has changed, just a lot of copy pasting the same code on additional server space then linking them to aetheryte.

Most suggestions about rectifying housing have been made many times in the past:
—Instanced Housing
—Instanced Housing on top of the current Ward housing
—More wards (e.g., Ishgard housing)
—Additions to apartments (e.g., small, medium, and large apartments)


What people do not want is the addition of housing plots on the cash shop. I generally don’t care much about what goes in there and what doesn’t, but I have to disagree with sticking housing plots in there. Just feels like the epitome of greed to place such a highly requested feature behind a price tag. I already disagree with paying for extra Chocobo saddlebag space, and the retainer fees are still iffy to me...

The capabilities of the engine the game runs on is generally what they list as what’s stopping them from just adding more housing willy-nilly.

I'm baffled that you think getting what we damn pay for is getting free things. People pay over $60 for the game and all its expansions, plus ~$15 a month, which some people have been paying since launch (do the math yourself), and you think the idea of everyone having access to housing is asking for free things? I want to live in whatever world you live in where everything is free.

I support this idea.
Especially on high pop realms it is nearly impossible to buy a plot, and even when it frees up there is a crowd of people you are competing against on a timer that can last one full day.
At first I was okay with competing and fighting over a plot of land, but after you miss out on 3-4 houses after having waited more than 16h there and given up sleep, waking every 1-2 hours at night to check availability only to see it being taken away by the first random who passes by, makes you wonder what'd be best.
I personally prefer to add 1-2€ more per month to my sub and sustain an extra server instead of losing irl health points. I can surely make much more money irl with 16h of my time rather than 12€.
Of course leave it as a possibility: who wants to skip the que will pay up for the extra plot, who wants to get it free will compete normally like people already do and like I've been doing so far. There is just a point when this gets exhausting. Either that or reduce the timer to a couple of hours instead of 20h.

We are not asking for "free" things. This is why we pay a sub in the first place. But $15 a month + up to $16 for retainers is already $31 a month and now we are supposed to add another sub on top of that to pay for something that should be part of the game, as it was advertised as such, not as something extra, like bonus storage. $31 is already outrageous since other games provide crafting bags, shared inventories, multiple plots of houses per character and such that are far advanced while tacking on no additional fee shows that it can be done.

You have no understanding of how little it would cost them and that its more a bad programming issue as they decided to rush housing out to meet player demand rather than taking some time and giving us a good system instead. This is what happens when the very vocal few get very demanding to a company that is quick to coddle. You get what you want, but at a fraction of what it could be.

The original housing plans Yoshida told us about were amazing and included additional wards being added as needed. They were just way to quick to get it out and most of what he said, like adding space and turrets and such with FC seals or the aforementioned ward additions, were scrapped.
