Alt-tab crash: why do we have to wait for 2.0?

That's what I'm wondering. The error we are getting on alt-tab is related to ffxivgame.exe losing DirectX device, which is normal behavior that has to be handled as explained here.

Now, you might say that it's impossible with the current engine.
But that isn't true; remember the first windower that was released not long after launch of FFXIV? The one SE shut down for hacking itself into the exe?

Well guess what, that little program fixed the crash on fullscreen and allowed you to run Crossfire/SLI without even having access to the source code.

So my question is, do you really want to tell me SE can't implement the functionality "because of engine limitations"?

Wasn't the windower putting holes in the 'security' of the game some hackers could have exploited?
Maybe, that's why they took it out and never implemented it themselves. Also, I much prefer they prepare content for now and 2.0 than fixing a minor annoyance that will be fixed anyway in 2.0. Priorities, priorities.

I prefer fullscreen as well, but in the mean time, windowed mode is not that bad. :)

Not quite, the program itself could have been used to exploit the game via it's plugin system that was in planning stages at the moment of SE shutting it down.

Definitely not. The reason they shut it down was because of hacking the game exe. The reason they didn't implement it is laziness or incompetence, pick one.

It's not a minor annoyance, they have multiple teams and the only reason half of the players is downplaying the issue is because, well, they use that said first windower themselves and don't give a damn about SE's inability to code for the PC platform.

They don't because PC users can fix this themselves (in a way) via Windows Snap. When a problem is able to be adjusted on the users end, the priority for the problem becomes low.

i can't even play fulls creen because ffxivgame.exe will give an error and quits after some short time playing :(
windowed does come in handy since you dont have to alt tab out to view a webpage etc. still.....

I really hope this ffxivgame.exe losing DirectX device gets fixed. I'm using Windows 8 right now, and every Time UAC Pops up the game crashes. Without UAC active on Windows 8 half the stuff doesn't run cause it needs UAC...
