Since it's already RNG...

...when trying to buy a house plot, just let us pick a number 1 - ???. Take the amount of gil that is required to buy as a deposit from anyone who bids. Leave the plot open for a certain time period (maybe right up until the next devaluation?), and give the plot to the person who was closest. Refund everyone who doesn't get it. That would at least save us from sitting in front of the placard for hours spamming.

After 7 hours spamming at the same lot, I'm about to lose my chance at it simply because I need to go to sleep for work tomorrow.

Personally, simple name draw would be better than a 'pick a number'. It'd be like the Jumbo Cactpot except for something that's very limited.

I think it'd be better if..

A house is no longer owned/is up for sale. Make it HAVE to be up for sale for 24 hours. (Excluding relocations)
During that window players can put in their gil, which would be the price of the house. Meaning that price decreasing wouldn't be a thing anymore. Price is determined by what size plots you're willing to go after.
When the full day has passed, one name is drawn for each house.
If that player doesn't log in within 24 hours, they forfeit the house and get their girl returned (Maybe a small fee), then house goes to the next randomly drawn name and repeats.

With people that relocate to a plot that people are trying to get, just give them an option to tick a box with 'Any available house' or 'this plot only'.
And if someone does relocate to that plot, then have the people who didn't tick that box get a special notification so they can apply for another house.

so replace what you see as ba d with something that is even more RNG based(whether name draw or guess the number) which would lead to even more complaining than what we get now.

Still better than sitting in front of the screen for 12+ hours clicking over and over again against 10+ other people only to have a small chance. Perfect? Heck, no. Better? Yes.

Just make all housing instanced, so anyone can get any plot they want at a fixed price.

Yeah it's a bit ridiculous. On Excalibur. Stay up till servers go up. I enter at the exact moment they go up and 30 queue. Load in and already 2 people at the house I'm standing at. Go to every single house on the server with open lot (there were like 20 of them) and now 3 plus people camping each one.

Don't these people have school or jobs to go to in the morning? I mean I do but damn the thirst is real for housing. I'm just going to take it casual from here on out with housing. When i'm bored check a few see if I get lucky and leave it at that. No way I'm standing looking at a sign clicking on it every 2 seconds for 10 plus hours.

I don't really know how the luck factor works when talking about housing, and not to brag but when I used to be in Jenova, I got a plot in the first try, same now in Louisoix. And my boyfriend got one too first try and then relocated to a mansion. Apparently in Louisoix at least you can get plots easily. Maybe it's server congestion? Or data center? I agree the system is absurd, we got lucky but the system really needs a revamp, without screwing the people who already have a house. I think a good implementation would be that, as soon as a ward gets full, another one gets created, finding a way to not screw the stability of the game. Instanced housing please no. Having wards and neighbors is nice.

I tried buying a house for about 11 hrs yesterday. I much rather would have been able to play but the way it is now if I leave its a big risk. I still didnt get the house or the others I tried for, maybe next time :(
