Why Can't We Lock Equipment Slots?

I tend to use the reccommended gear button as a 'quick equip higher-level gear' button.

But sometimes the game gets confused. Example:
As an Archer, it thinks the
Level 8 Leather Leggings (Masterwork):
+1 Str +1 Dex

Are better than the
Level 12 Hard Leather Caligae
+1 Str/Vit/Dex/Determ

Because the Leggings have +1 to Physical/Magic defense.

So if I get good gear for a DIFFERENT slot, I eithr have to go manually change that slot, or use the recc. gear button, then manually change the leggings back.

I asked this way back in the day: Why can't we lock equipment slots, to make the recc. gear button ignore it?
This would come in HUGELY handy for jewelry slots, where the game tends to think that crap ring of +1 Def/Mdef is better than your ring of +5 every stat.

this is super rare come level cap.

it's an okay QoL improvement but not really necessary since you can already save gearsets.

Depends what youre running. BIS items on Accessories arent always level cap items. Some penta melded Accessories at times end up being better than some of the ilvl 400 gear, but the game measures the ilvl 400 as being better (possibly due to ilvl?)

Technically... You can just move the problem recommendation into your inventory.

As the auto-equip function only checks your Armoury Chest.

how does saved gearsets not solve this problem? anyone who knows how to figure out BiS items is not going to totally rely on recommend gear to create their sets.

Yeah, basically that. The only time I use it is if I'm too lazy to find the gear that just dropped in my inventory and I just expect the recommended set to find it for me.

I don't think it's wrong to say that it could be better, but ultimately it's a tool for people who don't know what they're doing/ need a quick gearest, and not min/maxers.

I think the topic is looking for the wrong solution though. Rather than letting people lock in gear to avoid issues with the gear recommender at low levels, the algorithm should just be taught to not weigh armor as heavily before other stats for non-tank classes, so that the recommender will give lowbies the right gear. The type of person who actually needs the gear recommender to tell them what's good might not be the type to know when it's wrong + to lock in items if the option was given.
