so we have an inventory tab for crystals but what about the 1000s of crafting materials. every expansion seems to add another 100s more crafting mats, I have 3 retainers all full of crafting mats... I cannot craft out of the retainers bags... so why not create a new inventory tab that could house all of the crafting mats of the game.
thoughts?

For glamour hoarders, well, we were hoping the glamour dresser would provide that space, serving as a glamour log as well, but then it was implemented with limited slots instead, so we're still waiting on a real glamour log. At least it provides a little additional space. (And if the crafting mats could be moved into their own storage, we'd free up retainer space for more glamour.)
But anyway, crafting materials storage wouldn't make fishers and glamour hoarders *start* clamoring for a tacklebox and glamour log, as we've already been clamoring for both of those all along. We really should be able to get all three. Of the three, we've already gotten a partial feature for glamour (the dresser), so crafting mats should probably be next. -

I'd be happy even if it were limited to off-character storage only. Of course, being able to craft directly from items in the crafting storage would be better, but just having someplace we could put crafting mats that had a spot for each of them would be a huge benefit. Even if we still had to drop them off there once gathered and pick them up from there before using them (just as we do now with retainers), at least eliminate the hassle of having to shuffle them around from one retainer to another trying to find space for them, and then trying to find them when we want them. Just give us a single clean interface that lists all the mats we have, by category.

The only reason this works for crystals is because there are so few of them. There's thirty-eight bajillion different crafting materials. At that point, just ask for more inventory. No reason to limit yourself to "crafting mats" only.
