I do not believe that there should be gender locking in the game, I would like to see a Male Viera and a Female Hrothgar added to the game, either at launch or as soon as they can after launch.
I respecftully disagree.
While I understand the rush, the races should be created from the scratch. If you rush them to make them, you'd get a half-baked race. They should take their sweet time to make them, so you can be sure the result can be accepted for the community. That will give them more time to gather more feedback. Their priority right now is to release an expansion and their patches, with all that it implies. I don't think it's rational to make such demand at this moment.
Prior to the announcement, we had especulation. Now, after the races were revealed, you'd have some actual feedback as long as people keep it civil (You all know what I mean with that).
I honestly think the beefycattebois feel rushed and lack the quality that the Viera race has shown in the teaser vids.
This thread already exists: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...-the-new-races. I know the forum is moving fast right now, but please look through the first few pages before creating a new thread since there are many of them talking about the new races. The community team already has a ton of feedback to go through, keeping it a bit consolidated for them would be kind.
I believe that male viera and female hrothgar are needed, yes, and should be implemented as soon as possible- but I mean it in the way you stated. As soon as the dev team is able. Those poor people seem to never sleep. They've got too much on their plate and not enough time to do it, so if they rushed a new race it would be that, rushed. Especially after seeing (and hearing!) just how rushed hrothgar were to display in the trailer, like you said.
What I will add is that I think Square Enix needs to be vocal about this. They need to give us a solid confirmation that they will be working on the other genders or that they will never implement them. Their disconnect with the fans and coy way of avoiding the topic of male viera is really just fuel for the fire of fans' outrage. I'll bring up the bunny suits. People asked for them, and they were confirmed to be being made for males to wear, too- but it took absolute ages for them to be made, because they were on the back burner, and only being worked on by the female devs when they could. But the important thing is that they were confirmed. As long as male viera and female hrothgar are confirmed, the panic will quiet. We can wait a long time for things- after all, we're Square Enix fans. Or, the devs can give us a hard no. We just need a straight answer. All this baiting fans and not answering directly and hiding the truth has escalated fans' disappointment quite a bit.
