is it bad that i kinda want the Gunbreaker to have a shield in the offhand?

maybe its just the gunlancer (from monster hunter world) in me ... i would love to see a big hefty shield while also using a gunblade.

Use of the gunblade switches between one-handed and two-handed though, and you need a hand free for reloading.

Nah, but if they gave us a flail and shield job....I'd be tempted away from PLD.

small parrying shield ... can still reload with it! :P

An arm buckler still restricts arm movements. I've actually used one before, they can feel cumbersome.

so does a sword thats as long and wide as ones body ... but they still have them in this game.

I was honestly expecting a tank with a magitek one handed weapon and a shield. Having the one job be the only one with shields seems like a missed opportunity.
