The big petition thread is a bit vague since I obviously didn't see the announcement that people are talking about. Sorry, but I guess I'm out of the loop.
Is it forcing Windows players to go Steam? I don't use Steam to play FFXIV. I bought a Windows key when I started playing this game. I don't want to go to Steam.
Is FFXIV forcing Steam client?

All it's doing is forcing people who bought it on Steam to use the Steam client to boot the game, if you bought the game through their official website then you don't need to worry about this change.

I've been running it through steam for simplicity because I always have steam open on my PC and never had any of the issues the people in the other thread claim are problems and I'd venture my steam account is older than the actual age on earth of most of those people complaining. The only noticeable issues I've had with steam is the connectivity to the actual store usually goes to crap when the summer or xmas sales first start.
However should note I never save card info on ANYTHING.
