Can you edit your post to remove that spoiler? It's old story but it's still a spoiler.
It's pretty clear from that scene that we would be saying we didn't [do what we were accused of], we just don't see it written in the script, but it wouldn't make any difference anyway - those people are out to blame us for it whether we did it or not.
(If we did do it, and were caught in the act, of course we'd still say we didn't!)
Our character is our character, but they also have a scripted role to play. I don't always like it either (I'm rather dreading 5.0) but that's how it works. Other characters talk, and you imagine your responses to them as the scene plays out.
I'm embarrassed to ask but how can I hide something as a spoiler?
