Yeah au ra don't have ears they apparently hear through their horns, which... I hate...
One brush against the horns will send some absolutely disabling pain to their hearing bits really...
Sounds is generated by vibration of air particles around the horns.
You bore a hole through the horn. They semi explained it in a lore panel.
You have to make sure to put a cork over the hole so it doesn't fill with spiders in your sleep.
And this is why I promptly unequipped earrings on my Au Ra alt until I could use glamours to hide them.
That said, most of the faces have character-creator options for unique horn decorations, including flat plates that must need to be physically attached somehow.
I would picture the issue with normal earrings to be not so much with just being there, but the noise and vibrations they would make as they swing around. So the fixed plates make more sense in that way.
I think I recall something about Xaela adapting their combat style to avoid damaging/breaking each other's horns and it bringing a great shame if you did so?
