Combat-System

I have a suggestion for the combat system. I was a Blade and Soul player and I have to say, the way the combat works is the best I've seen so far.

I don't know if the developers could make it to an option to implement a non tab-targeting system for players that would like it.
The camera would move with your mouse without pressing any buttons and targets are selected by looking at them. For certain bosses you could simply switch to the normal system I guess. And for enemy groups you wouldn't have to bother selecting a traget every time because it would do so automatically - which annoys me because every time a mob dies you have to select a new one and sometimes your tab is selecting targets that aren't even in the group in front of you and then you pull more mobs by accident that stand further away - is that just me or? :D

There are many MMORPG's out there that share a non tab-targeting combat - which I find good.
I personally was never a fan of tab-targeting but FFXIV is fun to play, so I'll keep playing it.

You can change your enemy cycling settings to target enemies based on distance rather than their left-to-right position on the screen.

Personally I just really want to see soft- / preferential-targeting implemented with melee skills able to go off so long as you have any applicable enemy within range (though always showing range according to your set target and always using your set target when it's in range). And, ideally, for every skill that looks like it should be at least partially an AoE to be one to that extent.

Tab targeting shouldn't need to be nearly so large a part of the game. On controller especially it feels like it has practical design constraint conflicts with rapid repositioning for melee DPS skills and really holds back intuitive and efficient button-mapping.

I play Call of Duty and i like to play shooters, maybe developers can change combat system to FPS?)

I play the old Final Fantasy games, maybe the developer could change the battle system to turn based menus.

That said, there is multiple targeting schemes in XIV and it sounds you haven't explored them much. The tab selection order can be changed to be distance based, and I'm fairly sure there is autotargeting closest thing when you use a skill. There's also assist for targeting the targetvif your target and you can make easily a macro that first select specific person in the group and then targets their target for you. (And keybinds for targeting specific members from your group if you don't want to combine these to macro) possibly other ways I don't recall now. My way is to click either the monster namebars or, preferred if possible, click the monsters in the aggro list as that's not all over the screen. Have never even tried tab targeting.

Personal preference is to have a button set to target nearest enemy, and tab from there if needed.
