Crafting requirements.

Someone explain to me the reason Heavensward crafting, Archaeornis leather for example, recommends 468 craftsmanship (and darn near requires it to HQ an item) when the best you can do without needlessly grinding through hours of old content to get equipment that you would have over leveled by the time you get it is 414?

Currently in level 50 greens (Artisan gear, Ilevel 70 which is better than the Ilevel 65 level 51 HQ crafted gear and no the jewelry isn't pentamelded because it's a massive waste and utterly useless to pentameld that gear for one level) the best I can do is around 414 unmelded. So why is it that Archaeornis leather recommends 468? It makes no sense that with HQ crafted level 51 gear the most craftsmanship you will have (Chest is 105, Mainhand, level 52 btw, is 170, off hand is 139 not counting materia) is 414 and the items you need to craft recommends 468.

I understand this is because when HW came out they had to make it challenging for people with Ilevel 6,000,000,000. However, since HW isn't the "latest and greatest" content why didn't they streamline the jump between level 50 and HW? Why is it that for new players to HQ a leve item they have to either A.) grind through countless hours of old content to get the gear required only to be 4 levels over that gear when you get it because the level 51 HQ crafted gear isn't up to snuff to actually make level 51 crafts or B.) have a gracious friend who's already dealt with SE's incompetence and will craft the items for you?

The more I remember what I had to go through when I was leveling up when HW was "new" by hearing friends who I invite to play the game complain about it now the more I'm reminded of the original ff14 debacle.

I'm not sure I understand what issue you are having? If you are trying to gain levels through crafting stuff, either stay on easier crafts or use levequests for a little while to get the experience needed to level 61? If you're complaining that 60 mastercraft items are to hard to craft, then again, level up and get to higher level with better gear where it won't matter that they need high stats for level 60 because you can be at level 70 with level 70 gear. Even the starter ilvl 290 crafting set is more than enough to craft lvl 60 mastercraft gear.

EDIT: Misread, thought you were trying to go from HW to SB but I see now you are going from ARR to HW but same princaples apply. Either craft easier stuff or do levequests to get to level 52 so you can wear HW crating gear which has the stats needed for HW stuff. You can even have a friend craft levequest items for you to help you make the jump with HQ turn ins. If you have no one that will craft HW items for you to turn in, then use the lvl 45 levequests. It will take a few more levequests but they will get you leveled up all the same.

The craftsmanship estimations are complete nonsense and based strictly on the recipe level of the craft itself. So take those with a real pinch of salt

If you're struggling then I would suggest just grinding out NQ 40 durability items with exp manuals and catching up on your crafter quests 1-50.. Doing both of these will ideally carry you to Lv 53, then you can just buy HQ gear on the MB for cheap.

Crafting is a long-play game. I don't know how many of your crafting classes you're levelling but even with on-level gear, unless you have some cross-role skills from other crafting classes (usually given at 15 and 50) you're going to have a very, very difficult time HQing things. It's set up to be a whole minigame of its own. I wouldn't even attempt to HQ current master book 6 recipes if I didn't have multiple crafting classes levelled, and I've got full pentamelded current gear (at level 70).

Things get better from 60-70 because the skills are evened out, but without the unique skills, gear will only take you so far. Honestly, levequests were how I levelled all of my crafting classes - I don't have the time or patience for that sort of grinding.

Also moogle (and namazu) dailies. Those give crazy exp.

Ixali are the ARR beast tribe that offer crafting quests. Doing their dailies will get you nice chunks of xp. The quest to open them starts in New Gridania outside of Adders' Nest.

Well yeah, but the OP is specifically talking about HW crafting.

I came across the same issue during that stage of my crafting career, and asking very similar questions. However, I acknowledged that I was doing things the uphill way because I wanted to experience the old grind as much as possible before going on into HW. With an additional expansion, typically you would just do some leves to get you a level or so and then upgrade to ezpz equipment that has similar if not better stats than the BiS gear you obtain in the previous expansion.

Most will tell you that grinding the old way is an unnecessary way to spend your time, but by actually trying to HQ stuff you really have no chance of doing without loading up on HQ mats and RNG help teaches you a lot about your rotations, improvisations, and crafting free-handed (not committing to online rotations). You learn the insides and outsides of crafting like this and makes you much more self sufficient so you don't have to hit up other crafters for rotations.

You misunderstand. I'm level 50 in all craft classes with some at 70. I have no issue HQing anything. My issue is that I put my reputation on the line by recommending a game and those new players who want to level as fast as possible through old content have problems HQing a leve item in all HQ crafted, level appropriate gear because the level 51 crafted white gear doesn't even meet the recommended stats to HQ an item. This is because of the Ilevel gap between maxed ARR gear when SB came out and the starting SB white gear. Level 50 greens are Ilevel 70 while SB white level 51 gear is 65. It makes no logical sense and new players get frustrated with it. I ground out the level they shouldn't have to now that SB isn't the "Newest" content. SE should go back and streamline that stuff.

This isn't really an issue? The same happens with combat gear too. If you had your best of the best at lv50, it also overshot the new at the time HW handouts. (i130 Poetics gear vs i115 rainbow). For crafters, it probably even went a bit further as anyone doing well the 2.X patch series was probably also melded. (Some who probably used that gear far into HW, just as people wearing well-melding HW crafter/gatherer gear used that far into SB).

The 51-59 (and 61-69 for that matter) gear isn't designed to get you perfect chance HQs for at-level recipes.

Have your friends either get the older lv50 stuff and meld it, or grind on something older that they can use to gain a few more levels until the stat gap is more even, just like combat options. ...I kept all my melded accessories through the entire leveling process because they worked just fine. FFXIV has plenty of casual catch-up-ness in it.
