Mahjong is the most depressing mini game you've added to XIV

I've been trying my damndest to get the hang of this game. Spent many hours playing against NPCs, trying to win. I've played two games with other players, and I've been told by a few of them 'you lose almost all games you play'.

This is beyond disheartening. I collect the music scrolls in game. And someone thought it would be a WONDERFUL idea to lock one of them behind this game of all things achievement wise.

You start at 1500 points, and you slowly gain them if you win, or you lose them pretty damn quickly when you have a loss. The one time I came in second place I gained 9 points. The first time I get 4th place, I lose 29 points. This is beyond depressing if this is just an inkling of what kind of BS I'm gonna have to see just to try to get one damned item.

I don't play on a heavily asian datacenter, so this game is probably gonna die off in a few weeks at best, and I won't be able to collect the orchestrion roll that was force behind a damned achievement for this game.

And this isn't the first time they'll have locked people out of achievement based rewards when something dies off.

Do people actually run Seal Rock anymore outside of the rare instances you're forced into it if you dare to do the roulette? You need 100 total wins just to get the glamour from that, but that's pretty damn difficult to get anymore now, isn't it. And I have a feeling it's going to be the same thing with Mahjong once 'enough' people get their achievements, leaving everyone who wishes to get an item shit out of luck because of it.

But seriously SE, thank you so damn much for this. Orchestrion rolls are something I've always enjoyed collecting and running dungeons/instances again over and over. Until now. Thank you for this BS.

If it were for winning X times, then I could actually deal with the heavy point loss. But for you to get knocked down hill that much faster than you can dare climb up, it's a kick right to the crotch.

Bad enough with the absolute shite drop rates of music from Halatali HM (40+ runs now), and whatever the dungeon name is for Siren (20+ times) as it was already.

Honestly I'm having a lot of fun with it. Been turning on some music, sitting back in my chair and just going at it. I like tabletop games like this. I don't really frequent the Gold Saucer because nothing there ever appealed to me, but I spent a few hours in their just chilling and playing Mahjong this morning.

Did you play with other players, or NPCs? NPCs have a fixed difficulty. Other players, you can obviously tell who's been playing a lot.

Both, though mostly just NPCs.

I gave up on it. I thought mahjong was just matching squares, I don't know what this is.

Nope, thats a puzzle game made in the west that uses mahjong tiles, but actually has nothing to do with the game itself.

Yeah, that's why you're having fun with it. It's a lot easier to play against NPCs with fixed difficulties. I've been queued up with random people who are actually at the point of them being ranked. I'm still at Novice. But this game is going to push a LOT of people away from playing with others, due to having to sit around for 40+ minutes when they could be doing more with their time, more so with achievements being out of their reach once only the 'good' players are left. That's what happens when you force achievements into a mini-game that takes an ungodly amount of time into a game that you can only get said achievements with other players.

You can enter TT tournaments with NPCs and still get achievements/rewards from it. Why the hell did this have to go against the grain?

Edit: You can ALSO play that terrible Lord of Verwhatever game against NPCs for rankings as well.

10-15 min matches I could see, but 45 min to an hour? No way! At least the card games are relatively quick!

Whatever, it's not for me and I'm not a collector/achievement hunter, just adding another one I won't get close to finishing. :P
