So, I wanted to see if I can get an answer to this question. Currently my FC sits on Mateus server. We are already seeing it become locked to new character creation at peek times. We are thinking about moving servers if needed.
So the question is this. Lets say right now on our current Data Center, the server capacity is like 20,000 players. Hit 18,000 or so starts to lock it. When we are shifted to the Crystal Data Center, will these caps rise? Will it stop the server from becoming locked in the future?
My worries is, inside our Multigaming community we used to have a FFXIV guild in 2013-2014. One of the issues was on Balmung, new people could not join the FC. In the end, we shut it down. We are trying to get FFXIV back into the fold as a guild again in 2018, and currently on Mateus but are starting to run into some of the same issues with character creation locks. So I am trying to find out if the new data centers will make this stop and ease my mind. Or do I need to move our guild to another less pop, less active RP server.

I doubt the locks/caps will be removed as those were probably put in place to prevent stressing the server and/or crashing it. That said, if enough folks move away from a heavily populated servers then the caps/locks wont be an issue anyways.

The populations for Balmung / Mateus / other worlds are server based and not datacenter based. Moving servers to another datacenter on its own will not change the point in which servers are locked.
What might help is the world visit feature. If players on high population worlds change servers within the same datacenter in an attempt to do something like acquire housing, the world visit feature would still let them travel to other worlds on the datacenter while being able to switch to a lower population home server.
In the end, the locks are server specific and require fewer players on that server to loosen. -

Well my fear is world visiting is going to hurt Mateus even more. With players wanting to come from Balmung to Mateus and as well as other servers to see what is going on there.
But already running into these locks and sometimes a log in queue. So we may have to think about moving to lower pop server and find new RP hubs. -

I noticed that some features would not be available... does that mean things like friends list will be unavailable? Sending tells? What about linkshells and fc chat back on the home realm?
