I do miss a lot of aspects of 1.0 and still wish they built off 1.23, would have loved to see the game and story continue. Sadly we wont ever get anything from it, or the graphics :/

I get the attachment, really I do. Even as disgusted as I am with both the game and parent company today, I still have a soft spot for original WoW. It was my first MMO experience and it was downright magical in the beginning- logging on for the first time, making friends, discovering the world. It's this kind of nostalgia that spawned WoW's Classic servers project. The difference is, I'm painfully aware that there is no recapturing the original feeling. You can make the original game right down to the last detail but in the end, you can't reset yourself back to how you were then. You can never get those "firsts" again. You can go back and relive them, and I am not saying there is no enjoyment to be had in doing so, but it'll never be exactly how it was.

I'm not entirely sure what the point of this thread is, other than you felt like telling everyone that 1.0 is better than the game we have now. That's your opinion and you're more than welcome to both have and express it. Just please be aware that everyone else is just as entitled to have and express their opinions, too. For me, personally, I love the game as it is now. It's might not be perfect, but I enjoy it immensely- it's fun, has an amazing story with plenty of emotion and well-written characters, and devs that obviously care about the game and the playerbase.

To each their own and I hope that you're able to find a game you like as well as I like the current iteration of FF14.

First off: Loading your post up with pictures just makes it difficult and unpleasent to read (also: why bother to link the video, if you screenshot 50% of it?)

Secondly: Whats the point of this?
I get that some people - obviously including the OP - are nostalgic about FFXI and/or 1.0, but no matter how much you talk about those games: They're dead and they wont come back.
I havent played either of them, but I've been enjoying FFXIV since 2.0 Beta. I've found a great community, even without the game artificially forcing me into playing in tight-knitted groups.

I'm sorry, but which each of those threads I'm getting the feeling that the OP in question chooses to cling more to their rose-tinted memories and simply overlooks everything good in this game.
I do enjoy the atmosphere for certain areas and I enjoy the story.
There are epic bossfights in the game! And while events might work differently now, I dont see such a problem with it - maybe because I dont know better or maybe because there isnt really such a problem.

FFXIV: ARR is a different game than FFXI and 1.0 (at least from all that I know about those two) and the sooner you either get over that and accept that even a different game can bring you joy or decide that this game sadly isnt for your anymore, the better.

Quite frankly I like "my" FFXIV as it is now - sure its not all perfect, I'm not saying that. But I still like it - the music, the atmosphere, the story, the fights and yes, even the community and specially the great friends I made within this game! Sorry if it isnt working out for you (generic you) anymore, but from all that I've heard about 1.0 - a game that was so bad that it almost bankrupted a large company like SE! - I wouldnt want that back.

Keep your memories in your heart, forget about all the aweful stuff that was included in your game back then if you want... but realise that those games are "dead" and that this game is all you'll get.
...and please, please stop pretending and whining that there isnt any community. I'm sorry, but thats just not true - if you fail to make friends, thats on you - not the game. Even an MMO is first and foremost designed to be a game - not a replacement for a social life or network that you have to build yourself.

I'm sorry but a lot of the points in that video are because the game servers were being brought down. The GM's were NOT spawning mobs in the cities before the closing events. the Faded version of answers was NOT playing until Dalamud started falling, and all of that was a big event, NOT how the entirety of 1.x was.

Also, I'd like to point out that 1.x was canned because over 95% of the playerbase quit(people only stayed on until the servers shutdown thinking there would be an in game cutscene,which there was not). If it had been successful, the game wouldn't have been shut down after all.

Also, the dev's offered to keep the servers up and running as long as there was player interest. As soon as the 2.0 save state occurred, people stopped playing, so clearly there was no interest, or not enough to warrant the expenses.

As for your points about the community, maybe you just aren't part of it? There have been mount walls, rings, towers, trains all over the place since 2.0 started, the great goobbue wall of 1.x isn't the only time its happened.

As for the Nael fight, yes it was scripted. I would know, I cleared it.


Are there some things I miss from 1.x? Sure. Faction leves are one of those.

Do I think 1.x should have been scrapped completely? Also yes, the game overall was terrible.


Clearly this game is not, will not be the game you want it to be. You should quit since you only make threads like this pining for a game that was overall so bad it almost sank SE into the worst financial situation it had ever been in.

Most of that stuff only existed because they were planning to shut down the game. Players do tend to unite in the last moments of an mmo and GMs are allowed to mess around when they otherwise would be reprimanded or fired for doing what they did.

It doesn't mean 1.0 was better, it just means it was in its last moments of life.

I see nothing none-critical about 1.2 from the OP. Was it truly a MMORPG paradise?

I don't quite understand how you can state "To each their own" and claim everyone is welcome to an opinion, but you started your post with TL;DR - rose colored glasses.

I really dislike that excuse as it feels like such a blatant write-off. Yes, nostalgia can be a powerful thing, however that doesn't mean that everyone who claims to prefer an older game over XIV is simply suffering from it.
