Flamethrower

Hi, I just got to level 70 on my machinist and I'm trying to figure out the Flamethrower skill. It seems to keep canceling on its own. I make sure I'm not moving or using any other abilities and it still cancels. Sometimes it'll get to 60 or 80 heat and stop, other times it stops before generating any heat at all, and sometimes it lasts all the way to 100 heat.

Is there something I'm missing about using this ability? The tooltip only says it cancels on movement or using another ability and I know I'm not doing either of those.

Would like to know what I'm doing wrong with this. It's a fun ability, but frustrating that it keeps ending early.

If you so much as turn in place using your right mouse button (in case you play on PC), it cancels.

On a serious note... It's mostly used to induce the Overheat, so you can launch Wildfire and the 2139632 buttons afterwards. I think someone more proficient can link you a proper guide.

It's hefty, but don't worry about it too much, just check out the openers and rotations and skim through the rest as needed.

Yoshida confirmed that they are aware of the MCH problems, and we -might- get some tuning in 4.5, and hopefully a rework in 5.0.

That might be it. Out to do more duties for testing I guess.

Welcome to what is quite possibly the most underwhelming "Max Level" ability to ever grace the MMORPG genre.

- It's off global cooldown, but you need to let it eat up one or several GCDs in the optimal function.

- It does AoE, but it's pitiful and not really the point.

- Despite dealing damage, you don't use it to deal damage much at all.

- It functions infinitely better in PvP in basically every fashion and you'll regret ever trying it in this mode when you swap back to normal play.


Those particle effects tho.

Just going to confirm it was because I was holding down the right button on my mouse and any slight movement of the mouse would cancel it. Going to be a hard habit to break since I normally keep the button pressed for quick turns for movement and such. Thanks for the help.

I kind of hope they decide to add its PvP functionality to PvE as well.

It actually hurts enough to be worth using for the full duration as opposed to just being a clunky way to trigger overheat.
