People who are mad about the "limited job" didn't actually want Blue Mage.

You didn't want Blue Mage, you wanted another job. Blue Mage sounded fun, but you were never actually interested in Blue Magic. You wanted to learn your skills through scripted quests. You wanted all your skills to just be part of a rotation and for it to be balanced against all other classes so you could take it into raids. This could have been any class.

Blue Mage has always been a niche class. It doesn't appear in a lot of Final Fantasy games and you could see how surprised people were with the AF. It seems like a great deal of people who were upset at this job being a "limited job" didn't realize that the AF matches it's original incarnation in FFV.

SE is coming up with a really neat idea here. They're creating a class that's completely original to level, completely original to gain skills, completely broken for normal game content, and you're all getting mad for it. The way this game is made, you could not keep BLU true to it's form. This is the only way BLU can be handled in this game and it's a fantastic way of handling it.

First off: The whole first paragraph is a strawman about someone who "doesn't want BLU". Let's ignore this unnecessary rudeness.

Yes, BLU is niche... NO BLU is not rare. BLU is in 5/6/8/9/10/11 and all of the tactics games.

I think most people are only mildly upset with the RNG system to get abilities. In most other FFs, you have to see/get hit by/defeat the mob, and it is a gauranteed drop, but this isn't a big problem, if you assume SE wants it to take a long time to finish the collectathon. As a reminder, that is BLU's identity - the collectathon class. You collect a lot of abilities, it takes forever, and most of them are useless, but they are fun in that you have to seek them out.

However, as with all collectathons, there is usually a reward to this. You can use these spells in fights, and a few of them have some cool utility that makes BLU interesting (like mighty guard). The complaints everyone has is that this limited job system is saying you can't do the majority of modern content, which would traditionally be the reward. This is where people are upset. The version of BLU given sounds like a minigame, not a job.

But here you say, modern content "can't be done the way the game is made", this is simply false. Very few BLU abilities break the game the way Death/Petrify does (1000 needles and aqua breath are both traditionally weak attacks in the late game, due to health scaling), and these could be disabled. How could we disable these? Let's look at in-game precedent:

* Resurrection, while cross-classable, could not be used by PLD in combat.
* Stoneskin II (the old AOE version) could not be used in combat.
* The fix to the ungarmax glitch was to do a check of what kind of dungeon you were in, and disable it if you weren't in squad dungeon.

Would this be ready for 4.5 or even shadowbringers? No, and I don't think most people expect that. However, SE is really making it sound like they have no intention of finishing the job to be usable in even CASUAL end-game content.

You people are taking us "wanting Blue Mage" too literally.

Just like RDM, we wanted a job that aesthetically looked like and shared skills and abilities with a typical Blue Mage. NO ONE was asking for a single player job in an MMO.

I wanted Blue Mage and I'm mad about this. I LOVE the fact that you learn spells EXACTLY like you did in FFXI, another MMO. I LOVE the fact that it's going to take time to learn all the spells and it's not guaranteed. I HATE the fact that once I learn all my spells, and once I'm level 50.. the job is done until they decide to raise the cap and add new spells. But then all I will really be able to do is learn the new spells and reach the next cap.. and wait again.

I HATE the fact that I can't do ALL content on a job that I waited 5 years to be added to this game. Why even make the job if it can't be used in all content? They could easily make it work. Them saying level 5 death is the reason it can't be used in raids and it would be OP isn't a good enough reason. Eureka has death. Boss mobs in Eureka are immune to it. That's like them saying so and so job has a knockback! It can't be used in current raid content because it will knock the boss off the map and kill it! OP!! Knockbacks can be used, and the boss is immune to them. Why is this any different? I love Blue Mage ever since Final Fantasy V, and it was my main in FFXI for years.

Once again, I LOVE the fact that you learn your spells the exact same way you did in FFXI, but I HATE that the job will just be a 1-2 week thing and then wait 3 months for another 1-2 weeks of playing it. I want to BE a Blue Mage, not pretend to be one for a week or two every couple of months.

You're right that you can't do a majority of the modern content. This is because they don't want to balance the class. They want this class to be unique in ways that they can't let other classes be unique. If they were to balance it out so that it's equal with all classes then it's not really worth it. Why would I spend hours trying to get a skill that will do nothing, but give me a normal attack. At that point they might as well drop it in favor of gaining skills at the end of a quest and by then you've got another class that is exactly the same as every other class in the game.

The in-game precedent is a bad argument. They removed both of those examples because they were remnants of 1.0 and no longer made any sense. FFXIV 1.0 was unique in the way it shared certain skills that don't translate well to the current FFXIV. The last one was a literal glitch.

Yes, I am HELLA EXCITED for BLU. Admittedly, the "limited job" part was ever so slightly off-putting, but that aside, I still can't wait to join the Masked Carnivale, and roam the world over again as a Blue Mage in training. I refuse to believe that BLU is simply a mini-game class like some claim it to be. Are Disciples of the Land a mini-game? They roam the world to gather, based on RNG, even. To me, BLU is more akin to a Disciple of the Land, roaming the world and gathering abilities to use in the future. I think SE is going to find a way to make BLU usable end-game, very soon.

Totally agree.
Blue Mage is a hunter of monster skills.
It comes with a brand new type of content.
Just because it can't initially apply into every content does not mean it will never be able to.
And, Excuse me, but the only relevant content of FFXIV is not raid. I actually like more to level up jobs and play with the skills than to farm BiS to be able to keep doing the same thing you were doing to farm it.

I see a lot of "it's easy to balance, just make death V not work on bosses", OMG, did you ever played Blue Mage? The most fun of it is to get that rare skill and actually make USE OF IT. The fun of Blue Mage is to hunt monsters skills, and not to keep farming the BiS and trashing it and farming the new one and trashing it, I really don't want to keep doing this, I want things to be impactful and permanent to the time invested, and this system is something that is actually doing changes to what is becoming stagnant and senseless to me.
