Routing issues
Hello, I have been experiencing disconnects all week and just by login into the game, I am immediately greeted by the d/c icon on my character. This whole situation started somewhere around last week and has aggravated now, can't do content runs without disconnecting a couple of times.
Since my issue is only with FFXIV and not other games or sites, most likely there is a routing issue otherwise it wouldn't just appear from fin air.
Also getting 2002 Lobby connection issue when trying to connect to the data center.

According to my ISP there are connection issues , but those arise from the London part and there is nothing they can do about it.
I will add the tracert here as well for you folks to see and maybe report further since I doubt I'm the only one in this situation.

Good morning and thank you for posting in the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.
I am sorry to hear you are having connection problems. In order to get a better sense of the issue, could you please provide with the following:
-Wired or WIFI connection
-Other programs being used when running FFXIV
-Everything you have tried to resolve the issue
Hope you see you online!

Hello,
Using the following :
-wired 1000 mbs line
-chrome, discord, spotify, steam , battlenet and the general windows suite of services
-used tracert to see if there is a routing issue ,spoke with the ISP which confirmed an issue but said it's not from them, removed and fresh installed the game, tried the other solutions provided on forum regarding connection issues (compatibility with windows 7 and so on).
Like I previously posted, the only issue is with the EU SV after the connection leaves the Frankfurt node and reaches the Uk.
It doesn't always do that like now in the morning for me, but in prime time it hits and I get disconnect and not able to reach the data center.
Fresh tracert when I have no issues :

Thank you for the reply!
You mentioned that the disconnect happens during prime time. By prime time do you mean peak hours? If so, you maybe disconnected due to many people attempting to access the server during that time frame. Also have you tried running the game without the background programs?
Below are some trouble shooting suggestions I would like you to try:
The game will use the Internet Explorer web browser to connect to the internet. Open Internet Explorer, then open the "Tools" setting, go to "Internet Options" and adjust the following settings:
- Under the "General" tab, please delete ALL browser history.
- Under the "Security" tab, please move the slider to the lowest possible settings or no higher than "Medium"
- Under the "Privacy" tab, click “Advanced” and select ‘Accept’ under both First Party and Third Party Cookies.
- Under the "Advanced" tab, please make sure that "Allow software to run or install even if signature is invalid" is CHECKED.
- Make sure that all SSL and TLS (EXCEPT SSL 3.0) are CHECKED. [SSL 3.0 should be UNCHECKED]
- Hit "Apply" to save the settings, and then "OK, to close the Internet Options menu.
- Right-Click on the FFXIV launcher icon and select "Properties"
- Go to the "Compatibility" tab, and change the compatibility mode to "Windows 7"
- Hit "Apply", then "OK" to save the changes.
- Please RESTART your PC now. Once your PC has been restarted, Right-Click the FFXIV launcher icon once more and select "Run as Administrator"
-Make sure your fire wall or antivirus program is not interfering with the game
Hope to see you online!

Hello and I wanted to mention I'm having the same problem due to ISP.
Apparently everyone who uses the RDS ISP is affected by this at this point. My friends who play on the same server, have the same issue having the same ISP. We called them, and they said its nothing wrong on their side. My traceroute log has the same Request Timeout Error and game only starts working when its late in the night or morning.

Hello NanayS,
Could you copy and paste the trace route here? Also, where is the game disconnecting, during the selection of the character ? Or does it happen when already in game?
Hope to see you online

Wrote a report as well and at this moment after 2 hours i have no issues.
The reply was doing the following:
1.) Use the Google DNS:
- Go to the Control Panel
- Click Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center > Change adapter settings
- Rightclick on the connection you are using and select Properties
- Under the Networking tab you will see a long list of available options
- Scroll down and doubleclick on Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)
- Select 'Use the following DNS server addresses'
- Preferred DNS server > 8 . 8 . 8 . 8
- Alternate DNS server > 8 . 8 . 4 . 4
- Click OK
2.) Renew your IP address and DNS:
- Please press windows key + r
- Type cmd.exe then hit return
- Type ipconfig /release then hit return
- Type ipconfig /flushdns then hit return
- Type ipconfig /renew then hit return
3.) Add the game to the exception rules in your firewall and security software, so that the game is not being blocked by this software. If you are unsure about how to do this, you can alternatively disable this software temporarily.
4.) Restart your network equipment:
- Plug off your router from the power outlet on the wall
- Wait 2 minutes
- Plug the router back in
This initially didn't work at all and couldn't even reach the Lobby, getting 2002.
Reverted the changes and tried to launch the game . Worked fine for a while, then it started again.
At this point I started to watch the ports and redid what has been provided up, with the only exception that I made a pc restart.
Now i have better ping and like i said no d/c in the last 2 hours.
It might be a coincidence or not that with the port rule.
Hope this helps .

Would be awesome if another person with the same issue could confirm or not and hopefully be able to have a stable and smooth game time again.

Hi cougarel,
I have been having the same issue (disconnects during peak hours, timed out requests when pinging the data center) for a couple of days now and my ISP is also RDS.
Just to be clear, you did everything from 1-4, then reverted back and then tried the same 1-4 but with a restart? When did you restart? At the end of it, so after restarting your router?
I can try the same changes and see if they hopefully make a difference.

Did the restart after made the changes the second time.
