Who doesn't love a zone enriched with a pearl white blanket of snow, backed with a gentle violin tune to match (Mt Gagazet)?
If you haven't heard it, I emplore you to take a listen.

What makes an MMORPG great for me personally, is the attention to detail and simplicity in its design. Snow Regions usually incomporate both of those things for me.
I was a little bit dissapointed with Beaucedine Glacier & Xarcabad in FFXI.
I'm not intirely sure what it lacked in appeal to me specifically.
Perhaps I have become accustomed to dynamic "Points of Interest" in these type of zones, such as a Hot Springs or a Glacier Cave with dynamic colors and detailed Stalagmites, which I think it lacked.
The Xarcabad tune didn't feel like that of a snow zone, save the ambience of wind blowing.
Anyway, I am really looking forward to the zone redesign and all the little points of interest that will be implemented in them.
Whilst I remain certain that we won't see a snowy zone implemented until 2.0+, I remain filled with great confidence that they will do the winter land proud.
Below are some pictures from previous Final fantasy's where I believe they nailed it:
