Max Mana, mana regen, and you!

I did some testing with max mana and mana regeneration per tick.I can say, with no doubt, that max mana increases how much mana you gain per tick.I only did a few trials and encourage other to test as well.

I removed all my gear and drained most my mana. Then I recorded mana regained per tick. Did this a few times to make sure I got good data.

Repeated this when I added 75 MP worth of gear. Only MP gear, not piety.

I put the numbers in excel.

With no gear, I was getting a slope, mana per tick, 241.
With 75 MP gear, I was getting a slope, mana per tick, 247.

The R^2 value for both of this tread line was 1, so the slope is dead on.

I didn't see any threads on this topic, so I thought I would share. ;)

NOTE: I did my testing as a THM. No other classes were tested.

SE stated somewhere that MP restored over time is directly related to the max amount of MP you have, it may have been in a dev note somewhere. However, be sure as THM that you do it with your weapon drawn as well as in passive mode so you can measure the difference between your MP-Restoring job trait and your natural restoration.

I say this because I'm not sure if the job trait is a static amount, increases as level increases or is based on max mp amount. I'll likely test this next time I log in but lately I DC whenever I walk by certain spots in Ul'Dah that I haven't even bothered logging in.

Edit: Also try /sit to see how much that increases it. See how much it increases exponentially as well (fairly certain it does it here too, sort of like XI did).

I was fairly certain sure max mana and mana regen were linked, but information wasn't readily available on the forums or how it was linked. I plan on testing mana regen on different classes. Gla, Cnj, and Pug are the classes I plan on testing later. I am going to see if the regen is a % of the max mana. This requires more data points and for me to build up some mana gear.

The Auto-refresh is 3MP per tick. (about 0.08% of 3600~MP - Is always 3MP since you unlock trait.)

There is no reason currently to draw a weapon as a THM. (inb4 'immersion')

There is two reason to pull out your weapon as a caster, granted they are poor reasons at best. You cannot block or parry with out your weapon out. As a mage, like I really care about this, but when soloing it does sometimes matter.

The 3MP per tick, I think it is better compared to your spells costs than max mana. 3 MP is 1.4% of Thunder (our cheapest spell) and 0.42% of Thundaga (our currently most expensive spell). Still 3MP per tick is very little, considering it takes 71 ticks to gt enough mana to cast thunder again. Still better than gaining no mana like the other classes though.

Nonetheless I would like to be able to regen noramally while having weapon drawn for the superficial reason that it looks cool. I don't understand how SE can consistenly overlook details such as this and for example, making a mage primal weapon (mogwand/staff) with an mp regen ability that procs on melee. I know I know, it's getting fixed, but really, how do you overlook something like that? Mage weapons abilities should proc on cast, nuff said. Mana regen should not be affected wether arm is drawn or not.

With Stun, Bind, Heavy and Sleep on THM (Heavy and Sleep on CNJ) you shouldn't be in range to need to parry. Just my opinion though.

Well, that wasn't my point.

My point was to see if it in turn was influenced by max mp and if it influenced natural mp recovery. MP doesn't recover naturally when your weapon is drawn so it's a good way to test if one influences the other. If no matter how much max mp gear you add your recovery rate is always +3 then you know it's a static, but if it suddenly jumps to +4 from some percent then you just discovered something very helpful. Also, if you're trying to find the percent of mp recovered naturally, you have to subtract that auto-recovery trait. I was merely pointing it out to the OP since it could very easily be overlooked, especially by someone that was playing before the trait was released.
