PLD additions for 5.0?
So with the expansion on its way there will probably be a level cap rise and with that comes new skills. But PLD is in a pretty good place right now, so it got me thinking, what kind of things could they add that will actually improve upon the job?
First, I think PLD needs another weak, short recast, mitigation cooldown.
Compared to WAR and DRK, PLD feels like there are gaps in its CD rotation. Hallowed ground and sentinel compared to the WAR and DRK equivalents have very long recasts, and while that’s fine since they are also stronger and allow PLD to do things the other 2 can’t, it does mean there are times PLD doesn’t have an available CD where the other 2 would. And yes PLD makes up for this with cover and intervention, but there are times where you’re stuck as MT and simply run out of things to use (o10s when Midgard is being cheeky with the tank swaps comes to mind).
Second, I’d like to see divine magic mastery II: allows blocking while casting. Blocked attacks while casting extend the duration of requiescat by 2 seconds.
Casting is great, it’s a part of the PLD identity and divine magic mastery really makes it work. But the one thing that still makes casting really clunky, is that you can’t block while casting.
Many times I’ll be casting Holy Spirit under requiescat when a tank buster comes and I have to stop casting to allow sheltron to do its thing and due to the tight timing on reqiescat this usually leads to me missing a cast under it.
With this trait we’d be able to keep casting uninterrupted no matter the situation and would lead to great synergy with sheltron allowing us to maybe even get an extra Holy Spirit into requiescat with proper sheltron use. Or pre-cast clemency during a tank buster without losing out on a block because of it.
Other than that, I’d like to see more spells, maybe an AoE to compliment total eclipse, they could even make it a combo with total eclipse. Maybe bring back stoneskin? That was always a great part of PLDs kit in ARR and HW and could fill that weak available mitigation slot discussed earlier. A PLD version of raise? (I know, keep dreaming). Enlight?
They could also do some more Holy sword skills like saints cross or climhazard.
Possibly shield slam, our own version of plunge/onslaught?
What do you think of my suggestions? What would you suggest? And no, no pointless “PLD doesn’t need anything” posts, they’re not gonna just leave the job as is, they’re going to add something wether it needs it right now or not.

I think PLD should get a magic aoe that works with requiescat adding some Deep there.
I personaly don't like the 5 Cast holy spirits in a row but that can stay, and defensively the job is fine compared to DRK, meaby a upgrade to bulwark instead to a new one and better tempered Will rather that a gap closer.

Enhanced Cover 2: If no applicable target is selected. Cover is applied to all party members in range. Cover no longer negates damage to the recipient in this scenario. The amount of damage transfered per-recipient is reduced for each target linked (40% for two targets, 26% for 3, 20% for 4, etc.)
Oath's Fervour: Oath Gauge costs reduced by 50%. Spells have no cast time when the Oath Gauge is at 50 or higher. All weaponskills deal a second hit for 20% of their potency while the Oath Gauge is at 50 or higher (Sword Oath). Negates the damage penalty and further increases Block Rate while the Oath Gauge is at 50 or higher (Shield Oath).

Holy Flash trait of Flash that turns it into a aoe like Unleash that gets a massive boost under requiescat
shield bash becomes a gap closer keeps stun effect or enmity doesn't matter too much
either shield swipe becomes a 60 CD that drops 5 seconds after each block or intervention just procs it on hit
i always thought Bulwark was pretty ehh so it should just restore MP on each block while the effect is up good for packs of ads to keep doing the Offensive flash i stated before

Dash that lets you move to an ally's position
- Could work this into Cover
Rework of Holy Spirit so its not just spam this while this buff runs out
Fuse Bulwark and Sheltron
Oaths off of the GCD
Remove Blind effect from Flash and just extend its range
Maybe a 4th tier to the combos
- Speaking of combos can PLD have the option to have the 1 button combos from PVP to save some hotbar space
Please either make Tenacity useful or just buff our Strength and Vit by a significant margin, that goes for all Tanks

It would be awesome to see Paladin end up visually going more of the route of like say FFT Holy Knight class. So, seeing more Holy Sword type skills or maybe even traits that turn existing sword skills into those holy sword skills would be pretty awesome. The only thing defensively that needs to happen for pally is to have sentinel end up more in line with it's DRK and WAR counterpart cool downs as far as recast goes. I'd love to see a magic AOE ability for paladin. Maybe a casted version of circle of scorn where you cast and at the end of the cast you plunge the blade into the ground and it sends up pillars of light, not randomly, but just a burst of pillars of light.
Another idea for a casted AOE, since we've seen that we can harness the power of lightning to some degree, is maybe bringing some kind of blade of lightning down. That, or summon it up from the ground and have it blast maybe a 10-12 yalm radius with lightning.

PLD does not need a dash. PLD needs Requiescat, Spirits Within, and Shield Swipe to be made into ranged abilities. Solves the actual problem without copying the other two tanks.
And maybe I wanna see Shield boomerangs.
