New with some friends!

Some friends and I recently got into FFXIV but, with the game down, are trying to figure out which server to join. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions? We would like a server that has a decent enough economy and some people to play with. We don't know anyone who has been playing the game for a while so we are in need of a friendly and helpful LS. We're leaning towards Gysahl, Besaid, or Istory, but are not entirely sure which. We are not RPers so that has us a little iffy about Besaid.

I personally played in the beta and enjoyed it then but found the UI to be laggy. I see it's since been fixed.

Being on the Besaid server myself, I would wholeheartedly recommend it! :) I don't RP either, nor do most of the people I know; if you don't like to RP, I still recommend Besaid. However -- if you dislike the mere thought of RP and couldn't stand being exposed to other people RP'ing occasionally, then Besaid is not the server for you (I say this to spare the RP'ers, lol).

If you do decide to roll on Besaid, and are in need of a linkshell, I would suggest checking out: http://aessedaitower.enjin.com/forum ~ I have been a member of the main shell for a couple months and it is active and friendly with some fun organized events! I am not the owner or in any leadership position though, just thought I'd mention it 'cause I enjoy being a member of it. ^^

Looks like you have been researching your stuff. The linkshell I'm in which is 100% social is within the server Istory, this is our site http://spawns-again.guildwork.com/ (please check it out if your interested in us)

We also have a TeamSpeak 3 server, which is a voice-chat program.
