Why is environmental interaction still lacking?

Why can't we still not enjoy environmental interaction like the one that has long been added to WoW already and exists in if I'm not mistaken all modern MMORPG out there today?
Why can't my Chocobo have the convenience of the grass massaging its feet in 2019?
Why is this happening?
Is my character not in the same dimension as the world it is in?
Even my character on my first Pokemon in the first Gameboy's days would have the grass around it react when it is moving
Is the FFXIV team struggling with a very unfortunate engine?

I don't know what you're talking about, the invisible walls I keep running into interact with me just fine

And I'm not offended by them either, but the grass and bushes definitely deserves some good spanking

Honestly.. I'd rather have less invisible walls and the possibility, to actually fall down the obvious you-jump-you-die-edges, then having grass interact with me cyberbootey.

Some of it does. You can see your (or your mount) footprints in sand and snow.

There's also wet footprints for a while after you step in water or swim.

But... why not both? Both are very, very standard features in virtually all other MMORPGs.

Yes. The combination of the engine, “fragile” servers, and leftover 1.0 spaghetti code is supposedly the reason why we can’t have a lot of things in this game. Any time something is suggested (e.g., HD texture packs for high-end PCs), the excuse is the game engine. Anytime something like instanced housing is suggested, the excuse is a combination of coding and wanting to keep a “neighborhood feel” to Wards. When we ask for a proper Glamour Log, less convulted Glamouring system, or even the Glamour Dresser as a housing item, we’re met with “it would be difficult to code” excuses (though, apparently they have said they are “working on” making a Glamour Dresser housing item). There’s... a lot of things that are turned down because of the engine/coding/stability of the servers, it seems.

just thank hydaelyn that this is not 1.0. there were invisible walls everywhere and no jump feature ;P ;P
