New 70 crafter

Hello there!

After ignoring crafting for most my time in Eorzea I've been working on it these past few months. Every crafter is 70 other than CUL and ALC.

Looking at the stat requirements for the 4.4 crafts, even though I have full yellow scrip gear and specialist, my stats still aren't high enough to even try these new crafts. I take it my only real choice is to get CUL up and use food for the extra bit.

Or is there another way? Keep in mind I'm not rich nor am I crafting to make Gil, so anything that requires it is not an option.

You should try to craft the latest crafting gear and meld it, even if just a bit. I don't know much about script gear because I never used it, but I know it can't be melded so it won't be good for long. As for materias for the melding, you can get yourself a minimum meld through weekly deliveries (and subsequent payment in scripts) and Ixal quests, that can neat a good amount of low level materias. Honestly, you can craft 4.4 gear without spending a gil, all it will take is time, although a lot of it.

I was hoping to do things without needing to meld materia. I don't like using materia in gear I know I'm going to replace in the future. Which means I never use materia at all. lol

I suppose I'll have to wait until ALC is level 70 since the crafted gear requires mats I can only make by having everything at 70. At least I have every single master book ready to go.

Then ctrl + F and search for Caimie's MaMa Rotation for Special 2 Star Recipes, she explains how to do the basic rotation that works for most of the 70 dura recipes. Her guide overall is great, so read all that you're unfamiliar with.

The thing is, with unmelded gear, you won't hit the prerequisites for 4.4 gear, therefore you won't even be able to launch them at all. Let's say that you manage to craft yourself the latest crafting gear (onishi set) in HQ with all accessories and tools, you would have 1590 craftmanship, 1470 control and 395 CP. If I remember correctly, the prerequisites for 4.4 gear are 1700 craftmanship and 1600 control (could be wrong, I'm not ingame to check), this is a gap that can't be closed by food. You would have to meld in order to at least launch the craft.

According to Ari, full yellow scrip puts you at 1645, 1529 and 400 cp, which is just a few points short even with Matcha. Unfortunately it seems Yellow Scrip gear is intentionally designed so that you cannot craft 4 star with it at all.

Edit: My bad, the specialist stone will indeed push you above the mark with hq matcha.

You can check the marketboard in game to see what food is available and how much of a stat boost that can get you. As far as i know there are only 3 types of tea(with nq and hq versions), easy enough to see those numbers. I imagine you know whether or not FC buffs are an option for you, and in which tiers if yes. Look at your full set of gear, add those bonuses in and see where you stand. My guess is that you wind up short. However, you might not need a full-set upgrade(i dont have the stats in front of me). When you see how short you are, look at the stats on the newest crafting gear and you can do the math on which pieces will get you over the hump.

And while i can understand not wanting to meld gear, if you already have all your master books then materia is one of the best uses for red scrips. A weeks worth of custom deliveries is typically more then 10 materia grade V worth of scrips. Even just melding the base-slots can get you further then you might think. And keep in mind, they added materia recovery so you can take them back off your gear when youre ready to upgrade(100% chance grade 1-4, 80% grade 5, 40% grade 6). Considering how much materia is just thrown at you by end-game, its really not as painful to get into as you might think.

You have to use HQ warrior's stew to reach the 4 star stats in full yellow scrip gear, which is going to set you at really low CP. If you want to make HQ 4 star stuff with low CP like that, then you'll probably need to use whistle while you work and delineations. Delineations will cost you scrips, but materia can also be bought with scrips. So is it really worth it to avoid overmelding? Because of this, you might really want to look at least replacing the yellow scrip accessories, waist, legs and feet with the ilevel 340 crafted gear.

Actually though, looking at it, I was wrong about that. The specialists will reach 4 star stats with HQ Matcha because of the soul crystal, which means higher CP, but CP is still lacking. You still may have to rely on whistle while you work and delinations if you want to make HQ 4 star. However the non-specialist have to use the warrior's stew and they can't even use whistle and delineations.

I'll have to see what I can do when ALC is 70 and geared so I can actually craft the crafting gear. Just hit 60 today.

Since I have all master books and nothing to spend red scrips on, materia it is. What stat should I focus on? I was thinking CP once I hit the requirements for 4 star gear.

It is a good idea to max out your CP, which is 493 pre food although do this not in the first two meld slots, use Control or Crafstmanship there. I'd also get craftsmanship so that you can do the rotations needed, then focus on Control for the rest. I'm not quite fully penta-melded with my gear, but with HQ mats (about 70-85% with normal base mats) on all classes 100% HQ is easily attainable unless I get that dreaded poor condition for Brygot's. I've been able to make a full set of 380 gear HQ without any issues after gathering mats, but try to use about half HQ in base mats so I can get all HQ mats for the final craft. Even then, having one or two normal I can still typically get HQ.

I hope that helps in your questions. For my rotations, I also as mentioned still need Matcha even with 493 CP. I then use HQ tea for control to max it out even more.
