MNK's Tornado Kick hits for 430 potency instead of 330 stated in the tooltip

Steps:
1. Record damage from Tornado Kick with Fist of Wind, Twins Snakes, Dragon Kick buffs and Greased Lightning 3.
2. Record damage of Twin Snakes and Dragon Kick from non-flank position for a 100 potency control, also with Greased Lightning 3.
3. Compare damage between Tornado Kick and 100 potency control attacks.
4. Estimated Tornado Kick should be 330 potency according to tooltip or ~9348 damage. But real recorded damage is ~12178 which corresponds to roughly 430 potency.

Either the tooltip is incorrect or the ability is bugged and too powerful.

This isn't a bug. Tooltips do not take in to account additional damage/potency increases from player buffs. On this occasion if you require Greasd Lightning to use the action, you would read the tooltip for GL to see how much the damage is increased. Same goes for BLM with Fire IV and Enochain.

Also I noticed the spreadsheet mentioned "Fists of Wind for convenient Greased Lightning build up", but Fists of Wind only effects movement speed not actions. Fists of Fire however would effect damage output.

Kurando, consider rereading what was actually done. All actions were done with GL3 as a constant. FoF has nothing to do with the fact that it's being treated as a ~430p action with GL3 factored out. The comparisons are like for like and outright show the damage is doing more than it's stated. Every time that's incorrect, that has been fixed either on the tooltip or by the damage dealt. Just look at Tri-Bind.

In the end the tooltip for Tornado Kick is still correct, it displays the base damage without buffs (even though it can't be used with GL3). Now if SE decided to add more information to the tip just like with Tri-Bind (i e. Additional Effect: Damage increased by X amount under Greased Lightning) then of course players would be better informed, but this would need to be done across the board for all the jobs not just MNK.

Foul and Fire IV do 650 and 300 respectively but can only be used under Enochian, increasing damage by 10%. Deathflare's potency is 400 but can only be used under DWT, which itself gives 10% damage increase. Blood of the Dragon increases potency of Jump and Spineshatter by 30% but that's not in the latter's tooltips, so where does it end really.

By look at Tri-Bind, I was hoping as someone with their main class listed as Summoner would remember that Tri-Bind was incorrect from 4.1 until 4.2. The action was dealing 100p in DWT (regardless of DWT's 10% magic bonus) and as such was being increased BY 70 potency from the 30, not increased TO 70 potency which is what it is now. The devs realised their error and changed both the tooltip and the damage of Tri-Bind in 4.2. There are other examples where this has happened.

The potencies listed in descriptions are meant to be correct regardless of buff status because buffs are done at the very end of the calculation and do not directly increase potency, they increase the end damage result. Deathflare is 400p with or without the 10% magic of DWT.

Tornado Kick's tooltip is not correct. It is being treated as >>> 330p regardless of buff states. Either the tooltip needs amending, or the damage does.

Just because someone lists a job on the forums does not mean it's their main or they are some expert that knows everything, things change and we are only human, stuff can get overlooked or mistakes made. Just throwing that out there, rather than trying to be snide about it...

How is DWT any different to Greased Lightning, they both increase damage and not potency so the calculation would come at the end. By your explanation Tornado Kick's potency would be the same regardless of being under GL or not, no?

Tornado Kick is always used under GL3 because it literally can not be used without it. For comparison I used 100 potency attacks under GL3 as a control comparison. The relative difference between 100 potency and 330 potency will not change if both are affected by the same multipliers, which they were. However the relative difference between the control and TK was not the difference between 100 and 330, but 100 and 430 instead.

It's not being snide, it's making sure the facts stick and are not swept away by statements such as opening with "This isn't a bug." based on an incomplete understanding of the matter at hand.


GL3 increases damage dealt by 1.3, DWT increases damage dealt by 1.1.

Deathflare is correctly doing the damage equivalent of 400 * 1.1

Tornado Kick is presently doing the damage equivalent of 330 * 1.3 * 1.3, or ~430 * 1.3 (which is what is currently observed in game).
