There's one thing I've really been waiting for square Enix to add. I would love to have sephiroth hair in game for males or at least a very long past shoulder length hair for males. I hope others who feel the same would also encourage this to gain the attention of the developers so they can make this happen :)

While I'd love longhair options as much as the next person (...I changed to FemRoe mainly for the amazing long hair they get), I doubt that we'll ever get such long hair...
"Modern Aesthetics - Samsonian Locks", a drop from PotD, will at least unlock a hairstyle thats a bit longer - still nothing compared to Sephitroth, but better than all those short haircuts. -

While I'm all for long hair it would clip horrible to the point where I wouldn't use it. Even the ponytail I use clips trough my shield (and neck position part of armor) all the time.
And I don't think they will ever add TressFX or hairworks, better physics support because either servers will explode (remember Yoshi said servers will crash if they even added 1 more slot to the inventory) or the spaghetti code is holding it back (no doubt).
Other then that such settings in an MMO would be overkill, consoles wouldn't be able to use it and many PC wouldn't be able to handle it either so I don't see them working on a feature that maybe 5% of PC users would be able to actually use.
And before this they would actually need to get true multi core (to at the very least use 8) support and just a modern engine that's able to use the power of current gen CPU/GPU's ... I just don't see all of this happening.
^ I think that's the reason all the hairstyles are rather short.
But, there's actually a mod for longer hairstyles. You can google it, I'm pretty sure I'm not allowed to post link to mod websites. -

To animate long hair so it's not all just one large chunk that moves in one way, they need to add joints to the skeleton of the 3D model. Doing this requires a lot more resources than you think, especially when there's a lot of characters in a small area with this kind of hair. Moreover, they'd have to consider how the hair clips with every combination of race/gender/animation/armor.

Remember when they increased the inventory size? Many people including myself had the option to see the whole inventory in 1 window, after they increased the bag size the inventory window had 2 tabs instead of the whole thing in 1 window. They actually said it was an oversight and they where working to bring that option back but there were some issues with the increased slots now ... they didn't knew how to do it at first and had to test.
It's the reason why we have complicated half assed 'solutions' like the glamour toilette.
On top of all this we also had the PS3 limitations ... lucky that's not an issue anymore however it's still show in the code.
I'm honestly very surprised how they where actually able to untangle the spaghetti like this however at some point it will break (read; server crash when adding 1 more inventory slot at this time) they have to do so much extra work and honestly I wouldn't be surprised if they don't understand all of it anymore at this point.
Would have been better to just scrape it and made ARR new from the ground up but that would have costed too much money then they wanted to invest no doubt. -

Everything you see on your monitor, other than numbers and written messages, is dealt with by your computer. Everything. Server manages the invisible things, the mechanics of the game. That's why it's a feature that either is there from day one...or not at all.
All of that however is possible with significantly less computer power than you seem to think. There are many years of games with lesser clipping issues from before "realistic hair physics" were even a thing. That's because it's the exact same technology that prevents your character from walking through a wall or falling down the earth, with only basic physics for how the materials interact (because unlike with a wall or floor...the game cannot just forbid the movement when collision occurs, as that bug the graphics at best or crash the game at worst the moment you'd use any combination of clothes and/or emoticons that cause such collisions).
And again, this is not necessary for preventing clipping. Those are high-end hair physics that allow the hair to move realistically, but it would not even stop clipping in the first place. It would only solve the problem of how the hair would be interacting with the clothes once clipping would be removed.Quote:
