"Weathered Equipment wins Recommended checks"

Date & Time: Any
Frequency: Always
World name: Mateus
Character name: Victoria Winter
Class/Level: 48 PAL
Party or solo: Both
Steps:
1. Have "Weathered equipment in inventory"
2. Be Paladin
3. Be wearing equipment that is higher level than Weathered.
4. Press the recommended gear button.

Weathered equipment will win vs. all other equipment. I noticed this happening around level 20 and it has persisted to my current level. Weathered equipment is item level 5. It still wins vs item level 40+. I've only noticed this happen when playing paladin. Weathered ring etc doesn't override my SUM equipment.

I've had a number of other equipment pieces win that should not have. The only solution seems to be to remove inferior equipment from armory chest.

Do you have any other tank-specific accessories (i.e., accessories with Vitality as their main stat)? If you don’t, that’s probably why the weathered accessories are falling under your recommended gear—they’re the only accessories you have with stats on them that favor tanks.

This. Vit is a tanks primary stat. and the extra 20or so hp is bigger than 6 determination 6 dexterity yada yada.

the strength might trump the vit dps wise but thats the endless disconnect between devs and players.

players treat tanks as dps jobs and the devs don't. which is why a lot of folks completely ignore that shiny new tenacity stat and just throw on moar dh or str.

This wasn't just a problem with accessories. Accessories are the only items left that I haven't discarded already because they are still useful at low level for my other classes. I was having this problem with pretty much every item of equipment, including the equipment from the class quests being overridden.

Regardless, that algorithm needs another look. 1 vitality might be better than 1 or even 3 of any other stat, but not 30. A tank doesn't have one relevant stat. They should be weighted or something.

Anyway, I went and bought a bunch of heliodor jewelry and it did override the weathered. Thank you.

While the algorithm does need some work, the only weathered items are the accessories; nothing else is labeled as “weathered gear” save for them. The weathered accessories have +1 of every main stat, so unless you have an accessory with more than +1 VIT (the main stat for tanks), the recommended gear is going to choose your weathered accessories. Even if you have something that is +3 STR/DEX, because those are not a tank’s main stat—VIT is.

Tanks do have a relevant stat—Vitality. In this game, their “relevant stat” is VIT, even though their damage scales off of STR. They do not benefit from the other main stats (DEX, MND, INT).

This has little to do with the players and everything to do with Tenacity having extremely poor scaling. If you stacked Tenacity as high as possible, it only offers 8% mitigation. This is so low, it won't even free up an extra GCD for healers. Meanwhile, 125 STR offers a tremendous damage boost. While not an awful stat—it does have some value in prog—Tenacity just isn't worthwhile compared to Determination. And is utterly laughable when held against Crit, and especially STR.
