DD Gear

What's the best setup you guys have found for gear?

I'm currently using...

Ifrits Battleaxe
Silver Tricorne +1 (no materia)
Cobalt Hauby (no materia)
Fingerless Raptorskin Gloves of Slaying (1 Strength Materia IV)
Penance (looking to change this for Flame Sergeant's Sash)
Felt Trousers (1 Ironman's Will Materia III, I know this should be changed for Swordsman's Cry Materia)
Cobalt Sollerets (1 Bloodthirst IV Materia)

I've also got 3 Dated Garnet Ring's but im not really bothered about jewelery what with the new patch coming.

Other than my materia (which I need to change but just am too poor to do at the moment) is there anything glaringly outstanding that my fellow MDR's can spot?

Ifrit's Battleaxe
Paragon Crown > Sipahi Turban > Cobalt Barbut (+M. Evasion)
Cobalt Haubergeon (+VIT or +Crit Attack)
Cobalt Mitt Gauntlets (+Attack)
Sentinel's Plate Belt > Cobalt Plate Belt (really, meld whatever you want here.)
Felt Trousers (Ironman's Will +STR/+VIT)
Cobalt Sollerets (+HP)
Heliodore/Garnet Rings x 3

^ What I would use for a DD set.

I wouldn't bother with Swordman's Cry for pants, go with Ironman's Will. DEX only affects accuracy (not needed in 8man parties) and Parries (parries currently suck.) Ironman's Will offers +STR/+VIT, both of which are damage modifiers for MRD.

for mrd, go with a full plate set and

put x2 vit on body, x2 str on gloves, x2 ironman will on pants and parry or hp on feet, hp on everything else

He's asking for DD gear. There are more viable DD options outside of full plate.

i assure you penance is not one of them. Get a cobalt plate belt and meld it. 2 str is not worth sacrificing 100 HP(easy double meld) and def. Esp when you are alos -1 vit which is mrd attack power.

to each their own though, do what ever you want .

IMO, mrd is not the best DD but they can have high def if you choose too. When sh1t hits the fan you could be that last one up to finish the mob off or jump and and start tanking it tank dies. These bonus's help mrd be a better DD since their damage is not always the highest.

I can concede that Sentinel's Plate Belt is a more viable option.

No, they don't. They allow MRD to play a better off-tank role. High Defense does absolutely nothing for your damage. For a DD build, you don't want to sarcrifice damage potential for a little extra def/hp that really isn't needed at this point in the game (especially with a more viable tank in the form of GLA).

Nobody said MRD was the best DD, but played properly & depending on the encounter, it can certainly be comparable.

if you survive longer to land more hits then you do more damage. Have you ever been in a situation were everyone died and the boss was almost dead. My first time killing ifrit we had a full party wipe, and the chest popped and we got the achievement. Anyways, if you compare the gear youll see the sacrifice is trivial at best. cobalt body has +7vit and +4 att, cobalt haub has +7 str and +7 att(off the top of me head, not 100% sure). i wont compare everything else but a couple x2 melds will easily make up for it.

like i said though do what ever you want, im not here to tell you how to play.

Survivability really isn't an issue in this game. If you browse around the forum you can find current endgame fights being tackled in swimsuits, reindeer suits & naked.

Even still, gear in and of itself is trivial. The biggest factor in determining damage output is base weapon damage. But for min/maxing purposes, you're gonna want the gear that provides the highest damage stats for a DD set.

ive yet to see a naked mog fight. also if you dont think stats do anything then i advise you do some testing. I was shocked by some of the numbers i came up with.

if you haven't, youll want to test what stat mainly affects AA. what stat affects you WS.look for hidden stat caps by applying 10 of that stat at a time until you no longer see a damage boost.

I didn't say "stats don't do anything." I said gear was trivial. Nice try though.
