[Companion App] Microtransactions in a companion app? Are you serious?

Imagine my surprise, the companion app we've been promised for quite a while now finally arrives!

Now imagine my dismay, when it's filled with microtransaction nonsense and energy systems like a terrible F2P mobile game I'd never want to play in a million years.

This is a COMPANION APP, not a game unto itself. There should be no need for an energy system, no need for microtransactions (except maybe the ability to buy stuff from the Mog Station) and absolutely no need for a "premium" subscription on top of the premium subscription I'm already paying.

I don't know how or why the app turned into this disaster, but this is the fastest I've ever one-starred anything. You have completely missed the point of a companion app.

While I'm sure there'll be some segment of the population fine with this, I'm certainly not, and I know the majority of people won't be. It's completely absurd. This will be something people point and laugh at as a reason not to play this game. Even if it wasn't done out of desperation, it LOOKS desperate, like SE is so hard up for cash they're charging for something that has always been free everywhere else.

And it's not like the app is so incredible that we can all see why they charge. Every button you press is met with a spinning wheel while it takes forever to load anything.

Even all of that might not be so bad, but the worst part is that the app would clearly be the best way to, say, manage your retainers. Because the in-game method has always been extremely tedious and clunky, managing these multiple bank characters to just sell things on the auction house. Doing it via the app, loading screens included, was much faster, you'd click on an item you were selling and bam, it'd have price comparisons right there instead of me having to click any additional buttons! It was better laid out than the game!

And that's sad. Instead of making a superior UI for your microtransaction-riddled app (microtransaction-riddled even if you pay for premium! You still only get 2 kupo nuts a day! I can't even believe what I'm writing here.) you could have made the in-game systems less clunky and awkward.

Again, maybe everyone in these forums is okay with it, I don't know, but this has utterly crippled my ability to trust Square Enix. You take something that should be a nice side app, something convenient, useful and that keeps the game in peoples' heads, and you just completely get it wrong every step of the way.

As I agree the system they decided to utilize is kind of BS, I don't understand how it is a surprise, they have been fully transparent in what the app would do, what it would cost, and that you would have an "energy" system...

You are right they have been transparent that they would charge to be able to use the Marketboard, but they did not 'DEFINE' it. Assumptions were made by all...
However, one would think that if you pay for Premium you would not still be so restricted in what you can do and still have to pay for Mog Coins to do what you want to do.

Actually, 'have to' is too strong of a word. But I did expect to be able to do more than 2 transactions a day without paying extra on top of Premium. I hope they adjust these restrictions.

As I know Yoshida, when implementing new game features is notorious of restricting it for fear of affecting server balance and stability. Which is worth protecting. Especially when dealing with game market economies.
So I see both sides and reasons. But I would expect that I should be able to do more on the Market boards when paying a Premium sub for the app. The extra retainer, chocobo saddlebag, and favored destination is nice.
but I just wish I had more freedom in to do things in the Market boards. Especially since just adjusting pricing on your existing posted items counts as expending 1 Mog Coin/ Kupo Nut.

Which I don't think adjusting pricing should be lumped in as a full posting transaction. I think I should be able to do multiple pricing adjustments for 1 Mog / Nut. :(

So I'm disappointed in how this app turned out. Here's to hoping for future refinements.

I thought it was exactly what they said it was going to be personally. They promised a useless money grab and that’s what we got. At least I got my one extra favored location. Was hoping I could get that on all characters, but oh well.

I was just coming in to post a very similar post. I didn't follow it's development, it going live was a pleasant surprise, until I tried to use it.
Kupo nuts to "take it to the retainer" when it's already in the retainer's inventory? Moronic. I could see it if I was trying to move it to another character, or even if it was in my inventory and I wanted it moved to the retainer. But it's already in the retainer's inventory. Dumb. Just dumb.
This will go away when they discover no one uses this app they put so much time and effort into. Foolish.

Why create a new thread just add to old one, this has been covered soooo many times. Oh wait that is right people still don't understand the whole purpose and difference between Free and Optional.
