The Voice Acting. . .

I just started playing again after about a year and a half, and I can't help but notice that people from Doma literally have the exact same accent as those from Eorzea. In fact, generally everyone has the same accent regardless of where they're from. In real life, people that are geographically separated speak differently, even if they happen to share the same country, and this difference is more so pronounced if they live on separate continents.

If you were to close your eyes, you couldn't distinguish a Doman like Hien from your typical Eorzean NPC. Like given the whole far eastern theme, wouldn't it have made more sense to use a Japanese man with a Japanese accent? To be honest, it doesn't even have to be Japanese, per se, just different.

Using Elder Scrolls as an example, there was a distinction between a Khajit or Argonian compared to the rest of the populace when they spoke. So, shouldn't Miqo'te, Elezen, Roegadyn, and Au'ra sound different?

To be fair the voice acting is....not that great....to begin with. It always reminds me of a really poorly dubbed anime.

And they either switch out voice actors regularly or they cannot settle on a voice since the voices for the characters tend to change from patch to patch (Merlwyb in particular, that LadyRoe has never had the same voice) and while they enunciate well things do still come across as lackluster. Even if the character is emoting in fits they tend to still be speaking calmly or with very little emotion. I honestly don't watch a lot of anime and am unfamiliar with voice actors but I always just assumed they used someone from the office or unknowns they could hire for cheap.

Au Ra doesn't have an apostrophe.

That is because of our echo, we just hear them in the easiest to understand voice <3

Funny thing is. DQX Online the mmo, has no Voice acting. But if SE ever decided to bring it here it will be long delayed cuz we just haffta haz our VOICES. Nyah! :P

Say it to the voice actors that they should learn 5 different accents/dialects until 5.0. And not only the english voice actors, but all.
Doman people speaking german swabian dialect could be funny ^^

What about the japanese voice actors? Do someone know if they speak with different dialects or just in standard japanese?

Voice acting is a very expensive undertaking. Would it be nice to have each in-game region have a distinct accent? Sure - but it'd cost an immense amount of money, especially when you consider that they're already paying to have voice acting for many different languages.

The English voice acting improved considerably as of Heavensward and beyond. As a British guy, it's very nice to see the various different accents associated with the UK reflected in such a prominent game.

Hien, Gosetsu, and Yugiri, all have an eastern twang to their accent, but it's hit and miss and seemingly random when it happens. Mainly when uttering each other's names.
