why is job-locked gear still a thing that exists??

And before you say anything about maintaining job identity that went out the window when mogstation came in, not to mention reusing existing gear models and changing its assigned role for dungeon drops.
I dont want to put a BLM AF hat on my tank, I just want more freedom dressing my character how I'd like.

I'm all for gear becoming unlocked so they can be used across all jobs. Only gear I'd be fine remaining locked would be job artifact gear sets. Everything else? Just let people wear them.

This. I'd even be fine with it only being with the glamour dressing room and with the prerequisite of needing to be at cap on a class in order to do it. But it's legitimately annoying not having the option to mix and match.

I think you mean role-locked? The only job-locked gear are the "iconic" artifact sets, and I also feel that no matter what they should remain as such.

As for role-locked gear for glamour, yeah, at this point them worrying that somebody's glamour might confuse people is silly. There's a party member's job icon next to their status on the party list. In PvP the enemy player's job name literally is hovering right over their head. There's already been quite a few gear sets or pieces that once only belonged to one role, but either due to glamour purposes or simply reusing models, they have been made available to another role if not all others. We literally have dungeon and crafted gear between something like MNK and casters shared, and healers and NIN shared.

The 1.0 spaghetti code can't possibly be that restrictive to not allow glamouring most of the gear regardless of role, can it?

Yeah, I think most people are content with the idea of the AF sets remaining job locked, since it's nice to have something exclusive to your job, but it's silly that things like a random coat are. Especially when, as mentioned, those models are later re-used for a different role.

I would like to have all gear 10-20 job levels below current max level to be accessible to all jobs, including crafting and gathering. Imagine doing some botany in the tank tin-can armor!

I'm fine with job locked gear. It's class gear, such as craft specific gear that I want to be a thing of the past.

I'm all for the combat jobs keeping the locks in place, I think DoH/DoL should at least be usable by crafters/gatherers universally. Especially when it's no longer current content.

I think it is actually to do with the “recommended gear” button, and making sure you actually get equipped with the gear you need.

ARR gear is less restricted and if you’re carrying gear for multiple classes, the recommendations get messed up, especially for tanks. It seems the primary thing it looks at is gear level, not stats, so it will recommend DPS or even mage gear for your tank if it’s higher level, because they *can* equip it even if they shouldn’t. Having role-locked gear stops this from being a problem.

Role-locked glamour is the actual issue, and I suspect it would be an “all or nothing” setting that can’t make an exception to prevent the job gear to be glamoured onto other jobs. So if they specifically don’t want that to happen, it may be why they won’t unlock everything else even if it makes no sense to not be allowed to wear it.

I honestly think we shouldn't even talk about it until they get the glamour system going the way the playerbase wants it, or at least increase the amount of plates currently available. Unlocking certain sets, and increasing available options would only increase the demand to have this done.

I am on board now, but still prefer for job specific sets to remain locked. I believe this will never change for this game. However, I would like to see more job specific sets released. And be a little more risqué with the healer sets already for crying out loud!
