Black screen crash, 1min+ loading screen with audio upon restart/login

Playing Ridorana Lighthouse last night. Everything was fine right up until last boss pulled, then the game made a loud ding, my screen went black and it played the audio. I had to hard restart as it was not responsive and I could not even load up task manager.

After restart, I logged in, the screen was that world map screen when you are in Ivalis raid areas and the game would play the boss' voice audio, but no audio from players actions, music or anything. This took over 1 minute to clear for me to get the game visuals and control.

I have had some weird crashed since 4.3, but have not had any error messages to try to figure these things out. Any idea?

My specs are:
Geforce GTX970
Intel i5-4590
12GB RAM

How many times has this happened (or any different crashes)? Was this the only time? Have you ran into the same problem since?

After you waited the one minute, where did you end up? Were you in the same raid, or were you kicked from the instance?

You mentioned a "loud ding," this makes me think of a Windows notification sound. Was this what it sounded like? If so, it may be trying to bring up an error message but you wouldn't be able to see it.

Finally, can you submit a Final Fantasy XIV system report? Simply go to the 'Config' option on the Final Fantasy XIV launcher and to the right of 'System Information' click on 'Display.'

Thank you for the response. This is the only time this crash has happened, though I have been experiencing a lot of lag and weird error crashes since 4.3 patch. (At the time I did not think to check these error codes, sorry) I have done Rabanastre since then and had no issues.

The loud ding most likely was the windows error message, but I can't remember exactly because of the other sounds at the time. That was my first impression upon hearing the noise.

I ended up back in the same raid upon re-entry.

Thank you for the reply Endeleon.

I can't say for certain, but I believe you encountered a graphics driver crash of some sort, this might explain why your PC soft-locked and you could only hear the audio. You weren't disconnected form the game properly and it had to find your character in an instance server when you logged back in.

Hopefully it won't happen again, but if it does, try some of the following:

-Switch to Direct X 9 Mode
-Disable any overlays you may have open (your system report says you have Nvidia Geforce. While this usually isn't a problem, it may cause issues)
-Close any unnecessary programs
-Install the game on your C drive if possible

Additionally, there is a newer version of your graphics card driver. It's not terribly out of date, but it may be worth looking into.
