I've taken up to 9 month hiatus' before. It's very easy to recover in this game because there are so many methods to get gear. You already have a level 70, and a tank at that, so shouldn't be much of an issue. I'm not sure about changes to DRK though.
How would new player do it if any j' break would make it impossible to come back?
If there's one thing ff14 does well, it's providing catch up and casual options
I don't think you will have a problem. I didn't consider the changes to DRK to be that hard to pick up.
You're already 70? Sure, it's easy to pick up.
You'll have about 2-3 hours worth of MSQ to do assuming you had gotten past Shinryu before you quit last year, none of the fights between then and current endgame are really that hard ('cept maybe Castrum Fluminis, though I'd say that Shinryu was harder, easily) and there's several options you can use to catch up.
I'd say even if you were Lv50 or Lv60 it still isn't that bad of a catchup. I took a hiatus way back when, I got Lv45 and quit for nearly two years and when I came back, HW was out and halfway to Stormblood. Got mostly caught up before SB released. There's always catchups. Now obviously you probably won't be able to do progression raiding until a bit later, but meh. You still got quite a bit of content that you shouldn't feel pressured to do raiding.
Thank you all for all your replies. Any new gear that i should focus on?
The NPC one that can be obtained via daily quest pts?
Depends on what your current ilvl is.
You can buy gear from the market board, buy Creation tome gear (tomes you can get from running any level 70 content), or if you like to suffer and hate yourself you can do Eureka, which is the new relic gear/weapon system.
Omega Delta and Sigmascape and the 24 man raid gear (Rabanastre and Ridorana) are also options but the ilvl entry barrier might be a bit steep if you haven't played in a year.
Yup. Game's closed, nothing to see here, folks.
Until Stormblood I only ever played for the first patch or so each expansion. 1.0 I didn't even make it that far, I played for pre-release weekend and that was it. Getting back in and getting caught up might take a bit of work but think of it more like you just have tons of content available to you. Getting Deltascape for Omega to pop sucks but it's doable with patience.
