[Request] Devs to focus on Chocobo Racing improvments.

Dear Devs, I would like to pitch for some attention toward chocobo races. So many of us want to enjoy it, however... as we all are painfully aware of is the handling of how it works. I mean feels clunkier then an old chopped up Playstation 1 game. This one area could really improve the fun and games at Gold Saucer.

I am sure many in the community would agree. Sign your support to the devs to help gain some attention to this. :)

I want it to be mario kart with chocobos. It should be a "jump in and enjoy it" type of deal, not something where you have to battle rng breeding/stats/stamina.

Hmmm, green and red turtle shells in chocobo racing? Sign me up. Plus where is the flying Chocobo races yoshi-p mention?

I have a fairly long design document for an iteration of chocobo racing that should have existed instead of the abomination we have.

But I'll summarize it.

It's basically Crash Team Racing & Mario Kart, but with chocobos. Imagine the way the vehicles in those games handle to get a good idea. It needs to have a sklll element (jump timing, level knowledge, sliding/boost, etc.) as well as the luck mechanic (weapons from boxes).

Let the devs make a handful of maps and build a tileset editor that allows the community to make their own maps and share them among friends. Build in fun random rewards, and let people bet on it.

I'd like them to improve it but I don't think they currently can.

Well looks like we all agree. I dont mind the leveling up stats and breeding of it. But the actual RACING needs a major improvement. Tho I wonder if the devs could actually fix it. Then again.. they did redo pvp stuff.

They re-do PvP and made it worse. I hope players are not complaining Chocobo racing is too hard? And SE re-make it even worse.

The breeding/rng stat stuff is my favorite part, the actual racing part leaves a lot to be desired. I'd love to see a revamp of Choco racing. Maybe then they could add weekly/biweekly tournaments like the other two major GS games.

The problem is, FFXIV's Chocobo Racing is basically the FFVII version (which isn't surprising given the FFVII Chocobo Races were also at the Gold Saucer), with some boosts and stuff added. Even in the FFVII version you didn't really control the chocobo so much as simply encourage it to take a certain course, and it's stats determined how likely it was to follow your direction or stubbornly ignore you and take it's own path.

Now, this was satisfactory for a single-player offline game. In a MMO environment however, lag issues mean there is very little likelihood of the chocobo being able to follow your directions with any kind of urgency, effectively meaning the chocobo chooses it's own path. So personally I think using the FFVII chocobo racing as the basis for FFXIV's version was not a very suitable model to base it on.

Having said that, anything is better than FFXIII-2's version... urrrghh.... *rolls eyes*

Even just after getting the starter choco to its highest rank (50, puts you in R60) I can already tell its seriously unbalanced. Several abilities and items are extremely overpowered, especially Super Sprint. Also Briar Caltrop + regular sprint ability through everybody as you pop it = RIP everyone. AI is kinda funny though as they almost always get meteor and still get near last place. I'd say its almost as unbalanced as Mario Kart DS, and that game was seriously flawed.
