Mogweapon - Chance to restore mp

Am i right to assume that the "Chance to restore Mp" trait on the mage-mogweapons only procs when fighting melee?

If so, may i ask why? Or why do melees get a weapon that occasionally gives them hp while meleeing (cauze thats what they do) and we mages can't have a weapon that occasionally returns us some mp while casting (cauze thats what WE do) :confused:
On top of that, going into active mode means that you do not get the occasional resting mp&hp push, which will probably outweigh the assumingly way smaller mp influx from meleeing with mogstaff by far anyways.

Used to be that way in XI, didnt like it that way in XI, why go down the same road?

Reps already responded to this and said they were going to change it to where you gain the MP proc from casting. The real question now is when the hell that is going to be.

Why care? Mogstaff still sucks.

ITT: Bad thaums needing "Chance to restore MP" to throw more nukes to keep up with thaums sporting Lightning Brands/Electrum Scepters.

lol I don't think it has anything to do with "bad thaums." I think the problem is... Ifrit's axe, lance, etc. are a huge upgrade over any crafted lance with one or two materia, but a single meld crafted mage weapon is better than ifrit's cudgel...

You miss the point: SE is making usefull melee stats (hp heal on hit) but usless mage stat on mage weapon (mp heal on hit) instead of something useful (mp heal on cast), no matter how useful or no the primary stats of mogweapon may or may not be. Weather or not mogstaff with propper mp heal on cast is or is not usefull remains to be seen.
