Noob question...how do I equip/use Materia?

Step 1: Get a DoH class to 18+ (excluding CUL or ALC) and flag the quest "Waking the Spirit" ( NPC: F'hobhas; Area: Central Thanlan (29, 20) ). By doing this, you will obtain a materia melder.

Step 2: Obtain a materia and the catalyst mentioned on the materia itself.

Step 3: On each piece of gear, under the section that details the stats, it has some information.
Condition % Spiritbond [______]
Crafting Class Class (Repairs: Level x~ / Affixing: Level x~)
Repair Materials Grade X Dark Matter x1
Repair Cost xxx

Attaching materia is also known as melding or affixing. In the stuff I listed above, see where it says "Affixing: Level x~"? You must be of that level on the crafting class mentioned to the left of that in order to affix materia to the item. Note: Some items cannot be affixed to (mostly dated items and u/u items).

Step 4: If you meet the above requirements, go into your inventory, highlight the item you wish to affix a materia onto and select "Meld". From there, pick your materia and meld it on!

Extra step: Once you've melded 10 materia, go back to where you flagged "Waking the Spirit" and you'll be able to flag a new quest in order to obtain the augmented materia melder which will allow you to meld multiple matera onto a single item.
