Since both of them use math to use spells would we end up with it as an upgraded version of Arcanist if added as a new job class...?

artimetician would be alphineau
Well, SINCE the Rhidorana Lighthouse has given us the Ivalicean Arithmetician gear, we can gather that the Job existed at some point (much like the Valerian and Xenovian gear, this is more than likely a nod and we won't necessarily see the Arithmetician job class). IF the dev team decides to include the job, they have an "in" by making it Ivalicean in origin.
As to HOW the job would play...beats me, it may tie into Arcanima although arcanima specializes in Geometry (which, yeah, is a branch of math) so Arithmeticks could be a broader version of arcanima?
I'd imagine arithmaticians would calculate aether flow rates, density, pressure, and use those calculations to predict the flow of aether in combat and the environment and influence it by adding or subtracting their own either into the flow...
@Okamimaru
Sounds like to me that would make one heck of a new healer job class! A job class like that sounds like it'd have to make you think a but before using what job class moves you have, but it would also make it a really fun challenge that would literally have keep track of everything that happens on the field.
Would using an item such as a floating crystal ball be a good weapon for this type of Arithmeticion? It's have to be some device that would allow us yo freely see aether.
I can kind of see temp summoning like us riding on our own version of Construct 7 to help aid our allies and focus down enemies like how Demi Bahamut functions.
@Ordoric
I actually thought Arithmeticion probably would be how Alhphinad functions with his continuously evolving Carbuncle. But Okamimaru pointed really cool possibility that actually could happen for Arithmeticion or possibly similar job class since our character's relationship with the Scions allows us access to a wealth of knowledge and such not usually accessible anywhere else in Eorzea or Othard besides the ruins of Ivalice.
@WhiteArchmage
I think Okamimaru pointed a really good possibly for how Arthimeticion could function if made into a job class. ^^
How has Aritmetician functioned previously? It doesn’t sound like a battle class to me.
Prior to Tactics, there were monster attacks such as "Level 5 Death", which would kill anyone whose level was divisible by 5; these appear in XIV in the Agra Manyu fight in World of Darkness as "Lv150 Death" (kills everyone inside the circle if the total levels are divisible by 150 (in practice, a multiple of 3 people inside the circle)) and "Lv100 Flare" (major damage to everyone if levels total a multiple of 100).
In Tactics, the playable job Calculator (later renamed Arithmetician) was implemented with its abilities fitting into two groups: a parameter selection (CT (a sort of "initiative"), Level, EXP, Height (of the terrain)) and a target set of numbers (Prime, Multiples of 3, ...4, ...5). After selecting one ability from each group, anyone whose [selected parameter] was in the chosen number set would take magic damage. So if all your party were levels not-multiples-of-3 but the enemy party had several people whose levels were multiples of 3, your Arithmetician might choose Level Multiples of 3. Or if your party were all standing on terrain tiles of height 1 but the enemies were on terrain tiles of height 2, you could use Height Prime.
The math boss in XIV is basically doing a variation of "HP Prime" / "HP Multiples of x" in which instead of doing damage to everyone who meets the criterion, it rewards those people and punishes everyone who does not.
