Magic of the east: Geomancy, Onmyoudo and future jobs?

After slaying everyone inside the Swallow's compass I think it is a good time as any to discuss eastern magic a bit. We all know an love the Hingan additions to melee combat (ninja and samurai) but Hingashi and Othard also has spellcasters.

Geomancy had so many previews it is not even funny. First there was the Astrologian questline for Stormblood and now we even had mobs with the iconic bell geomancers have been using in past FF titles. They are also pretty much confirmed to be healers, which is good news because Stormblood added no healers or tanks and even I think it is not fair despite maining DPS.

However Geomancy only provides half of the fun. Both Hell's Lid and the Swallow's compass has been filled with Shikigami. Shikigami are basically summoned familiars for Onmyouji. Kinda like egi version of Youkai. Much like Geomancers, Onmyouji also use elemental magics. At least the FATE targets shot fire at us.

So can they be one and the same? Well they could be. They share lots of aspects and the two relevant dungeons seem to mix geomancy and onmyoudo. However there is a slight problem. In past titles they were separate classes. We had Geomancer AKA feng shui user and Mystic AKA Onmyouji. And Mystics are definitely not healers.


Regardless of either becoming playable they seem to be the Eastern variations of Astrologian and Summoners respectively. With a sprinkle of white mage for both.

Of course that leaves the question of how they work? This is one of the reasons why them becoming playable would be good. Where do they get their power from and how?
