What's the point of DoH/DoL grade VI materia costing 1500 yellow scripts?

I thought that when I had heard that grade VI DoH/DoL would be purchasable, it meant that there'd be an increase in supply to cut down on prices and such. At this price, it seems like it might as well not have even been patched in.

After all, many end game crafts need materials bought with yellow scripts, so there's already something draining us of yellow scripts. Additionally, from my experience in spirit bonding, crafting a full set of i290 crafting gear involves enough crafting such that you basically spirit bond an i290 set fully melded (normal melds, not overmelds).

If I'm not mistaken, just continually cranking out i290 crafting sets to spirit bond by making more i290 crafting sets would get you grade VI materia more quickly than turning those same crafts in for yellow scripts in and purchasing a single grade VI materia.

It looks like it takes about 14 Serge Ponchos at 112 yellow scripts each to earn 1500 yellow scripts. For all the materials that would cost, you'd get just one grade VI materia of choice.

On the other hand, you could craft a full set of armor + accessories, 11 total crafts, and basically spirit bond (I think it gets about 80% iirc) the previous iteration of that set. Craft a pile of zelkova lumbers or twinsilk to finish it off and you'd get 11 materia of at least grade V with a decent chance at a grade VI or two.

If I'm going to grind for yellow scripts, I might as well spirit bond gear, and if I'm doing that to supply myself with materia, I'll probably spend the yellow scripts buying mats or gear to desynth into mats.

I also think 1500 yellow scrips is a bit much.

I think the idea is that they wanted us to get like 1 or 2 "easy" Tier 6 each week by just doing Custom Delivery (which, by all means, is a very easy and cheap way of getting yellow scrips). The problem is that we also need yellow scrips for Kingcraft Demi at the moment. So we don't have much yellow scrips to spare. Furthermore, Alchemics were 250 yellow scrips, and they sell for about 150K each on my server. 1500 yellow scrips would have been equivalent to 6 alchemics, equal to 900,000 gil. The Tier 6 materia were not even close to 900K a piece, so obviously 1500 yellow scrips is too much.

I would think 500-750 yellow scrips per Tier 6 would have been fairer than the current amount.

I think they're a bit too expensive also but to be fair I think they're just adding another option for people who may be sick of spiritbonding lol. In all fairness I can crank out collectibles pretty darn fast. I'll do my collecting the day before and can max my yellow scrips in about 20 min or so, sometimes less. At least it is an option if you don't have anything you feel like spending yellow scrips on. It's probably a good thing that it is expensive because I doubt at this rate it's going to effect the market board prices very much. Maybe a little but it's not going to be something that most people want to spend too much time on.

I didn't even think about how silly 1500 yellow scripts sounds when compared to other yellow script items on the MB (I usually don't concern myself much with the MB). Yeah, even on Coeurl, you'd be far better off pushing alchemics on the MB and buying the grade VI materia you want. I think about 500 yellow scripts would make far more sense, and for that matter, maybe look at reducing the price of grade V materia as well. It seems they're a bit costly against the prices of grade IV materia. A similar MB comparison shows that about 200 red scripts per would be about right for grade V.

They'll probably nerf the price next patch

Maybe the point is to make them not worth buying with yellow scrip but to get us to stop complaining*?

Yep I think so, they don't want to make Grade VI that easy to get, at least I have something to spend yellow scrips on now aside from alchemics :) Even if it will take a while to buy enough VI materia to properly meld the new gear. However if there is better gear in the future then it is going to suck to try remove VI materia... :(
