[REQ] A nameable squad member. (More personal option)

With 4.3 adding the ability to FINALLY glam our squad members the way we would like. All thats left which would be to allow us a recruitable squad member that we can NAME. (Hell char creating one like retainers would be cool too...)

This would be an awesome addition for those of us who loved things like this in XI.

So please give us the ability to name one of our squad members. :)

Squad members can already be glamoured though. I've been running bunbun squad for months.

4.3 is just adding more features to streamline squad glamour and make it easier.


But as far as customization, I would love to be able to fantasia my squad members to whatever appearance I want. I'm sitting on 50 Retainer fantasias (not sure if my Retainers are trying to drop subtle hints with that) and expanding the item to use on Squadron members would give the item some more use again.

The game doesn't actually support this because NPC's can't be named, they're localized in the game client (basically every NPC has an id number, and the game client looks it up.) Players aren't localized, hence English and Japanese characters will appear, regardless of the language selected. That said, the game doesn't need to localize them. Unless SE is planning to allow the squad to accompany you on the overworld or in duties with other players, which would complicate things if you've renamed one NPC, and another player has not, and suddenly see different names for the same NPC. The simplest thing really is to "give nickname" to NPC, and hence that will replace the name they normally have on your client, while not renaming them for anyone else. No other player will see the nickname, and thus you can be as funny or crude as you want to be.

But I don't think we'll ever be allowed to use fantasia on the Squadron, because, again, they are NPC's. If push comes to shove I'd rather they let players have 8 retainers (only 2 can ever be out selling on the market without paying for a market license, and if they're on the market/venture they're not available to party.) At least the game appears to have initially gone in that direction, and the Squadrons were popped in as a way to do this without buying additional retainers. To date, I've only really used 4 of the squadron players, (one healer, one tank, and two dps) and basically they swap out for whatever thing I want to do. Since there are 8, it suggests that maybe 8-player content (eg trials) might be possible at some point with them, though I don't know if the AI would ever be smart enough to do it without having the AI players being scripted explicitly by the player.

The Barracks in Limsa was already designed and completed since 1.19a.

Ah I didnt realize that on glam. But yea.. I just want to see us be able to use retainers out in battle.. or the ability to have a better personal connection to squad members. While I know right now the names and so are locked.. I would hope they could add the feature. Which is why I am posting. :)
