I don't know if this was suggested and I'm sure people don't mind looking it up online. However; can we please have a creature log book in game? Something like when you kill the creature it's put into the log giving the name of the creature, location, what they drop, and maybe a short description. You know something for that one programmer that has nothing else to do or have a intern do it.
I also would like this as a new-ish player. The Triple Triad card game does give a nice little history on each enemy used as a card though. They could combine that with the hunting and fishing log as a basic idea.
What you're describing is a staple of a few old FF's (Usually remakes) called the Beastiary, and I'd be 1000% for an FFXIV version. I'd definitely try to fill it. Could even add completion achievements, etc.
I would love to have it list drops as you get it from the creature. like it would show 5 slots if it has 5 possible drops. It shows ones you have gotten and question marks for ones you have not.
As much as I would love a lore-based Bestiary in the game, sadly I don't see SE adding one for technical reasons: bestiaries work in single player games where the game itself is (traditionally) rather static - the enemy list is set and no changes are able to be made (of course this was before consoles went online and patches for single player games like FFXV became a thing, but I digress). MMORPGs like FFXIV however, are in a constant and ceaseless state of flux - they're constantly changing and evolving as time goes by and patches and expansions are added, and enemies can be changed in ways you may not expect, from being renamed to having their appearance changed.
A FFXIV example of this was a boss that appeared in Labyrinth of the Ancients had it's name changed later when Syrcus Tower was added so as to allow its name to be used for a new boss, confusing everyone. A Bestiary would thus also require that to have to be edited too to ensure it's accurate, which would require development time to be devoted to it that could be spent elsewhere adding new content.
Hence, sadly the effort needed to keep it accurate and consistent would outweigh the lore benefit I'm afraid.
I'd like a Bestiary. Sounds pretty great, and if we get some lore snippets about creatures in the process, even better.
