Inform...Square of this? Why?
Prelude is a musical track composed originally to Final Fantasy. Isn't it? I suppose SQEX has some sort of rights over it?
Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but I highly doubt this one guy got the permission to actually use it in a song (and effectively profit with it).
That much is why I wish to expose this situation to SQEX.
What do I get in return? Absolutely nothing but the grim pleasure of feeling extremely hypocrite and self-righteous.
So if you can help me with ideas I will very much thank you. Otherwise, sorry for wasting your time.
*coughsnitchcoughcough*
Knowing Square, they'll find out sooner or later about it and issue a copyright notice. Japanese developers in general are very strict about copyright.
I'm sure that if Square isn't aware, they will be eventually, if they cared enough, given the news pages I've seen when I researched it and twitter talk about it. Whatever floats your boat, I suppose. Good luck. /shrug
Went into this thinking, "Oh, it's just going to be a small sample, see it's just the beginning of the song..." and just facepalm as it went on. Total infringement, not even trying to alter it... /sigh
You are only hypocritical if you, yourself, are infringing someone else's work and claiming it as your own while pointing at someone else.
Also, as someone who has created content and works with a content creator, reporting infringement is not self righteous. You are helping to protect the rights of creators large and small which is important. If we don't defend our rights to the things that we create then we lose those rights, and if no one has rights to the things they create people will stop creating and society will stagnate. This may be a small effort on behalf of a large company, but it's better than doing nothing.
