Ever since the latest windows 10 update, the game has been freezing my PC repeatedly for me -- after 10 minutes to an hour, the game just freezes my entire PC and I have to force restart my PC. All my drivers are up to date and I've made sure to try switching to directx9 and changing the compatibility to windows 7 in properties, but it still freezes my PC after an hour. I'm unable to use Ctrl+Alt+Del too while the game freezes. I've never had any issues running the game before until now.
my PC specs:
Windows 10 Home, 64 bit operating system
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700T CPU @ 2.80GHz
RAM: 16GB
GPU: NVIDIA Geforce GTX 960M
Any help is appreciated.

Hello chosochika, Thank you for posting on the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums
Are you running any overlay's or programs in the background? If so, try disabling them to see if that helps. Also try to perform a clean boot.
To perform a clean boot for Windows 8/10: Open the task manager and select the 'Start up' Tab. Disable everything here and restart the PC. For Windows 7: Click Start, type msconfig.exe in the Start Search box, and then press Enter to start the System Configuration utility. On the General tab, click the Selective startup option, and then click to clear the Load startup items check box. On the Services tab, click to select the Hide all Microsoft services check box, and then click Disable all. For Mac: Restart the Mac, then immediately press and hold the Shift key. The Apple logo appears on your display. Release the Shift key when you see the login window.

Hello,
I tried your suggestion to disable overlays/programs in the background and performed a clean boot but somehow after restarting my PC, the installation for Realtek High Definition Audio Sound Driver keeps appearing after restart, and when I tried to run FFXIV, I got this error instead, which immediately closes FFXIV for me:

This looks like an audio driver crash. Was the Realtek High Definition Audio one of the things you disabled in that start up tab? If so, try turning that back on and restart the PC (or install the drivers of you have not already).

Yes, it was one of the things I disabled in startup. I've re-enabled it in startup and restarted the PC already and made sure all my drivers are up to date, but it's gone back to square one of the game freezing and crashing my PC after a few minutes in-game.

ffxiv is very unstable on audio drivers.
you can try to remove all realtek audio drivers and use default windows instead.
if you plug in a headset please note, that every change when ffxiv is running, can and will crash the game after some time.
this is a known common issue, that seems SE not really care about. -
05-20-2018, 04:34 AMchosochikaI just did a factory reset on my pc, set my power settings to optimal power/high performance and made sure it's using the GPU and it worked for about 3 hours before it started having issues again -- the audio cuts off and my other programs including wifi seemed to slow down on my PC and none of the windows would come up when I tried to open them in-game, and then I had to force restart my PC when everything froze and wouldn't respond. :(Quote:
